I smoked for 10 years, and quit last summer. I use a electronic cigarette now. My brain works so much better on nicotine, and while the e-cig has it's downfalls, I don't stink anymore. I can breathe much better, and I'm not sucking in tons of toxins every 4 hours.

I've smoked for 10 years now. Marlboro Reds.

Calms me, helps my focus, gives me a chance to break up the day.

I've smoked for 15 years now. I am hoping to cut down and quit eventually.

Statistically, smoking is rarer among people diagnosed with ASDs than the general population, and significantly lower than among people diagnosed with other mental disorders.

I do not smoke and cigarette smoke causes instant overload. I find it nearly impossible to breathe when someone is smoking near me. I have had periods where I could tolerate it more, but I've never been at a point where I could be a habitual smoker.

I don't think that there's any point to shaming or insulting people who do smoke. I do not like it and I would prefer they not smoke near me, but it really is a very easy habit to pick up and an extremely difficult habit to stop. I don't believe it is a matter of intelligence at all.

I tried a few times in college but I could never figure how to inhale and exhale from a cigarette properly . I guess this means smoking marijuana is never going to happen either due to this. I even went as far as buying a pack of cigarettes for myself but my ability to get the whole smoking thing down forced me to quit after like 3 attempts.

Just need to say there are vaporizers for both nicotine and cannabis. I smoked since I was 12 and quit cold turkey using a vaporizer. I tapered the nicotine level down to zero gradually. Now I inhale water vapor instead of the 100's of toxic substances in cigarette smoke. I don't plan on quitting my PV because it's nearly harmless, tastes great, and people love the smell. Vanilla custard waffles :D

As for marijuana... smoking is only one method. You can vaporize it, use it in tincture form, and infuse oils or butter with it for cooking. It really surprises me how many people don't realize smoking is not the only way.

I'm another one that has smoked off and on. I have too many rules about smoking to have ever become a habitual smoker. Like not smoking where children can see me, not too near a meal time, not in an enclosed space, etc.

I smoke weed with a little tobacco (listens out for all the Americans saying "those crazy Europeans...") but don't really smoke tobacco/cigarettes anymore; I started using an e-cigarette instead. It doesn't smell, diminish your lung capacity or give you cancer AND I don't have to go through the pain in the ass of quitting. That's a win on all fronts for me.

I really don't think it has anything to do with intelligence since my dad smoked his whole life. He was a great dad who was an engineer at Western Electric before he passed away. I do think once a person gets hooked on cigarettes because they are pleasant and relaxes, it seems to be an addiction like liquer and drugs.

I also smoked for a short time and just decided that my health was more important than smoking cigarettes and now I hate them so much that I won't let anyone smoke in me house. I also hate when I have to talk to a person that reeks with cigarette smoke. Unfortunately smokers don't realize just how much cigarette smoke stinks since they are use to it. Non-smokers need to ask ebay sellers about it so they can get a refund if the item reeks of cigarette smoke.

Ofcourse there are aspies who smoke.

But I would wager that in proportion to the population as a whole you would find fewer smokers among aspies than among NT's.

The main reason being that virtually all smokers start in their teens, and they start because of peer pressure.

Aspies often have no friends in their teens, and even if they do, they tend to be more influenced by elders than by peers in their bahviors. So they get through their teen years without smoking. And once you get that far- you're never going to use tobacco.

ADHD folks probably smoke in greater proportion than then even nt's because they tend to be thrill seekers- I would wager.

Am an aspie. I had basically no friends until I was 18, and then I bonded with the socially deviant folks. The result being that I am one of the few people I know who both HAS smoked pot (and even smoked crack) but has never touched a cigarette.

I smoke usually when I drink alcohol or when I take my dog for a walk. A girl got me into smoking and I'm usually thinking of a girl when I smoke, or an old classic movie. I think the smoking ban has also kind of encouraged me to smoke as I have an affinity for some things the state denies people.

Let's hear it for the deviants!

I smoke. I don't enjoy it that much anymore and would switch to e-cigs if I weren't so concerned about the chemicals... Saw that there are some e-cig smokers here so if you have any info I'd like to be convinced ;)
Smoking doesn't have anything to do with intelligence. Most people start when they are too young to think about the consequences, and not all start due to peer-pressure. It's (kind of) an anxiolytic too.
I've read why they say that nicotine is more addictive than heroin is because most people prefer small continuous doses of things throughout the day, and not a few hits that knock you out. Not that the withdrawal is harder. Oh my god, anyone that would actually say that needs to be punched. Sometimes the "more addictive" angle gets turned into "harder to kick" by people (and newspapers/magazines) not knowing the difference. I don't know if I believe that it's more addictive, but it had some good scientific reasoning behind it. Too tired to find it right now though. But comparing addictions is not a good idea at all to begin with.

It's not just in the old ones

But I find movies have cut down a lot on showing people smoking for decades now.
