Am I the only one who gets panic attacks from drinking?

Do you get them from excessive drinking or casual drinking?

I get them only when I've passed my limit. It's why I've become very careful not to pass it, and why I now only drink around people I trust.

Given a “tentative” diagnosis as a child as I needed services at school for what was later correctly discovered to be a major anxiety disorder.

This misdiagnosis caused me significant stress, which lessened upon finding out the truth about myself from my current and past long-term therapists - that I am an anxious and highly sensitive person but do not have an autism spectrum disorder.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

I agree, it's weird how alcohol temporarily suspends some of the behavior patterns that I struggle with from day to day. On the other hand, maybe more scientific research needs to be done on WHY this is the case. What happens in my brain when I drink that allows me to momentarily be NT?

I don't know if it makes me more "nt" but it does a great job at dulling my sensory issues. So if I'm having a bad day, I'll want to pour some alcohol on it. Not that often though, as I don't have enough money in the world (or enough time to get drunk) to do that.

who here finds that getting a buzz or drunk makes you talk like an "NT"? I do =( i hate how i have to drink just to talk to people i am shy around.

It only causes you to think you're acting like an NT, when you're really just acting like a drunk.... Pretty much the same thing that it does to NTs when THEY drink and think that it makes them charming and witty...

 So true. The other night, I stepped outside to say bye to my boyfriend at some ridiculous hour of the morning, and behold, the stupid party of NTs drinking beer in my neighbors garage across the street. They all started singing along with crappy hip-hop and screaming the world "ELBOW!! !" over and over. Yeah. Even my drunk self wouldn't be drunk enough before passing out to find any kind of appeal in that nonsense. Give me something more intellectually stimulating any day of the week. Even when I AM drunk.
