Exactly! So I invite you to languages section, I'm interested how you manage with wonderful Polish genders, cases, sufixes and declination. Google doesn't know Polish so much and generally has problems with Slavic languages. Polish is a language for hardcores and language geeks.

I raise the challenge to Basque, I don't even have a chance at reading Basque, it is really difficult.

Hau da euskara.

I did a paper on Euskara in college. Meh. :P

No, seriously, it's an interesting language. I read something in my research about how the root for rock and axe were the same. Fascinating implications.

Really, though, I'm not very interested in either language enough to put forth the effort right now. Now, if a university or something wanted to document it I'd do it. The problem is I'm in the US - they don't care about languages here.

Isn't Polish just for jokes. What about a cool language like Latin -- then you can read all the original Catholic doctrine about how we are all going to Hell. I love a story with a happy ending.

I'm really good with Latin etymology. It's just one of those random skills you gather over time I guess.

Now I am actually jealous. That is something I always wished I was good at. Damn.

I'm not sure its that special, it just has to do with a good memory of other words. Since Greek and Latin are the most common origins a lot of words you don't know the meaning of can be understood by knowing the roots.

An example is Pachydermata at first glance you might not be able to make any sense of the word but if you take the time to analyze it you can see that it is of Greek root.
Pachy - dermata
Pachy = thick
dermata = of the skin
when together it means "thick skin"

I see what you are saying. You have renewed my confidence. Thanks.

I dont know if this is normal but I think it might by a little unique. I remember the geographical layout of any house I have been in even 30 years ago in pretty decent detail.

I think this is really interesting, because I do the same - I don't really read the words, I just look at them, and if I made a mistake I know it because the word looks different than it usually does.

I probably don't have any savant skills. I learned to read when I was about five, before I went to school, and I really loved to read. I was reading The famous five when my classmates were reading picture books. I was six, and they were all seven because I skipped a year of preschool. I also really love foreign languages and can learn them easily, and I pick up the accent and the mannerisms of speaking. I can also imitate sounds and so, I remember when I was a kid and Free Willy came out - I was so stumped because I couldn't imitate the orcas, it was something new and different. I eventually learned it though. I really don't know if any of that could be seen as savant, but I'm guessing no.

Before I started to go deaf I had a great ear for accents and dialects. I could imitate any utterance in any language even if I didn't know what the utterance meant.

Not quite sure if I do (for sure), but I'd say for myself that I have an exceptional memory for general knowledge, languages, countries, places, cities etc.

I have an AMAZING sense of direction. It's almost impossible for me to get lost anywhere.
I build accurate maps in my head as I move around the world. If I go anywhere once, I will always be able to get back there again, years later.
I have zero use for a GPS device, because I am one.

I don't know if it qualifies, but I know everyone's car license plate numbers from when I was old enough to know the names of letters and numbers. And in electronics technology, I know the function and physical description of virtually every vacuum tube ever produced, and that's thousands and thousands. And I know the model numbers of virtually every TV set made from 1939-1950. But it won't make money or do anything productive to know those things, so I'd happily trade that ability for some body language skills, LOL.
