I always made sure to eat with my mouth closed because the mere thought of mouth open while eating made me physically ill, and my younger sis would do it to aggravate me. I would rock, tap, flap, hum, whine, sing, eat too fast (still do thanks to army days), and eat sitting hunched over. I still do all of those things, but not as much when I am in public thanks to some hard work and concentrating on trying not to do it in a public setting ( so as to not embarrass my wife).

Me too. I almost never ate anything. Sometimes we got a tiny paper cup of trail mix and if it had potato sticks in it I would eat those. Never drank the milk in school, yuck. I didn't eat much in middle school or high school either.

I can still remember the way the school cafeteria smelled in elementary school, it was gut wrenching.

I have eaten exactly the same thing for breakfast (2 pieces of toast and a coffee mocha) and lunch (2 grilled cheese sandwiches, chips and a soda) for over a year now. At dinner, I change things up (as my I eat whatever my wife prepares). Eventually, I will change up what I eat for breakfast and lunch. And, then go on another streak (where I eat that for an extended period of time).

I did the same thing when I was younger. I guess some things never change.

I am guessing that eventually, I will need to improve my diet, as I am not getting any younger.

I am a picky eater.
I eat too fast. When I was a child the first to finish got the extra vegetables so it paid to eat fast.
I hunch over too.
I like to eat the food while it is still hot so I don't see the point of talking while the food goes cold on the plate.

I used to eat with my mouth open when I was child/teen, but that had alot to do with having a severly deviated septum between my nostrils (couldnt breath and eat at the same time without having my mouth open).

Also tend to chew with my incisors too much, and not with my molars enough. Probably do it the wrong way because you cant taste food as well when its on your molars as when its squarely on your tongue.

I remember as a kid not knowing how to eat properly, probably made worse by feeling scrutinized. I remember chewing with my front teeth because I really couldn't figure out the "right" way of eating and spent a lot of energy trying to get it right. I remember also trying to chew up and down (not a grinding) because again, that's what I thought I observed other people doing and I thought I was copying them.

Some eating facts with me:

-I will eat just about anything.
-I am a compulsive overeater.
-I chewed with my mouth open a lot as a kid, but I think most kids do this, and I learned not to fairly quickly.
-I have a tendency to chomp my food.
-I still to thius day have a tendency to eat too fast.
-I only eat one thing at a time on my plate.
-I tend to pick apart sandwiches.

Makes me think and actually I never made the connection but I eat FAST.

I eat everything one at a time saving the flavor I want in my mouth the best for last (no veggies)

If I buy a gallon of milk I will drink it all the same day in fact anything dairy I just got nuts over.

I try not to buy milk or cheese now.

I learned to make sticky rice a year ago. I've eaten it every day since.

You can eat a lot of things with sticky rice!

I often eat until I'm sick but I only eat once a day.

Nowadays, my fads are much more passing. I'm be over one and out the other side inside a month.

Apart from pasta and red pesto, which I could eat forever.

Haha I could eat pasta and green pesto everyday

If I don't make a conscious effort, I sound and look really gross when I eat. Sometimes I chew with my mouth open, get some food on my face, or just look uncivilized in general. I also hunch over my food. I only do these things when I'm eating at home alone, but they feel natural to me. I enjoy the food better that way cause I'm not focusing on looking presentable.

But when there's people around, I get conscious about how I look when I'm eating. I wipe my mouth after every bite because I'm paranoid about leaving some, and I try and take smaller bites so I chew more quietly. I may or may not remember to sit up straight.

I also chewed a lot with only one side of my mouth, which caused my teeth to be kinda weird. Not too weird, but still. It was one of the things that contributed towards me getting braces.

I'm also extremely picky. I don't like eating sandwiches or burgers or pretty much anything if I don't save the best part for last by eating around the good part. For example, when eating spaghetti, I like the parts with meat the best, so I'll eat all the noodles around it first.

Yep, I do that! I don't see why everyone else doesn't-- the best part is in the middle cause it has the most condiments, why not save it for last, you know?

Food has to be as hot as possible as do my hot drinks (tea coffee etc). I have never ever finished a hot drink, the last centimeter or so always gets left as it's too cold for me by then.

I cannot eat mince (feels like gravel in my mouth). I remember when I was about 8 years old having a meltdown at school over spaghetti bolognaise. We would queue up in the middle of the dining hall and wait our turn to be served. Back in those days (1985ish) there wasn't much in the way of choice. There were ten prepared salads or you got whatever single meal was on offer. So it was spag bol or salad. Except by the time I got to the front of the queue all the salads had gone. Cue meltdown, very publicly in front of 200 or so other children, dinnerladies and teachers. After a lot of tears, one of the teachers ended up giving me their salad just to calm me down.

That also reminds me of another meltdown in the same dining hall, probably in the same year. We had octagonal tables and they were all filled in order. First 8 children sat at the first table, next 8 at the second, etc etc. So it was totally random who you ended up on a table with. One day, I was the 8th person to one of the tables and when I realised the other 7 were all girls, I had a meltdown until I was moved to the next table. I think that was the first time anyone had not sat where the system designed them to be.
