Driving has always given me anxiety. I've had to learn to deal with it but sensory overload is an issue and I'm very defensive, not trying to hurt anyone. It frustrates me a lot how people drive in California, they are always in such a hurry just to gain a few minutes of their lives and it doesn't seem to register for them that they are traveling at dangerous speeds in a steel monster that weighs thousands of pounds. I miss living in Oregon because people were by and large more sane about the whole affair, it's not cool to kill a whole family because you like to drive fast. Young people make me nervous.

it is an "urban myth" that speed kills. according to the NHTSA, 90% of auto accidents occur at speeds below 40mph and within 25 miles from home.

And those aren't nearly as deadly. People die in auto accidents typically on the freeway. Simple science, you don't get injured nearly as bad when traveling at significantly lower speeds.

it would be a lot safer for everybody if only America would take a clue from how the autobahns are run, with strict speed segregation in the lanes, IOW the fast lane is not plugged by passive aggressives like it is here more often than not- and the slower lanes remain slower.

They have more stringent standards when you get a driver's license, and I've also heard that in Finland in particular it is pretty tough. I can't wait to move back to Oregon where I wasn't constantly nervous on the road, watching morons be morons.

Have any of you seen the Northern Irish road safety add, i don't recommend watching it, but if you speed regularly it makes you think, the imagery is almost unforgettable.
Disturbing, and banned before the watershed.

I so miss driving. Fast, slow, it doesn't matter. I just love the feeling of being inside and controlling such a powerful machine.

I love to drive. I just learned manual over the summer and I am pretty good at it. I like the fact that I can get into the car and it will take me (almost) anywhere I want to go. I did not get my license til I was 21 so I appreciate having a car more than most kids my age.

Honestly, I am usually home on Sundays. That is my "busy" day- cleaning house, working on homework for the week- so I generally don't even leave the house that day. If you are talking about slow people in general, if they are going less than the posted speed limit, then I go around them. The one thing I hate about manual is that it takes so damn long to speed up. Especially when I am already going 60 (mph) and am in 5th gear. I have to make sure there is no one coming for like three miles in order to get enough speed to pass someone.

I guess it has to go an extra level to get through in the North, I?m broadly generalising and somewhat joking but many guys drive their cars like they stole them. In the countryside there are many narrow winding roads, sometimes I?ve met cars on the wrong side of the road on a bend, hair raising stuff.

Maybe. This is the specs from a quick google search:
2002 Model
Engine size: 2.0L
MPG: Up to 25 city, 33 highway
Horsepower: 140 HP
Torque: 133 lb-ft
Has 100,000+ miles on it. New clutch in May.

in America there is broad surveillance and since a major part of local revenues comes from traffic fines, one increasingly can't get away with fast driving here. America is the land of the ticket trap.
