Autistic people do not have superior intellectual capabilities to non-autistic people.

Not from my experiences. Although perhaps there may be a misunderstanding in semantics on this one.

Easy. Getting $1 million and getting to keep my ASD would be the best of both worlds. If someone offered to give me $1 million to give up my ASD, I would turn them down.

I would give up my Asperger's for free. I would pay to have never had it.

Then your experiences are not a fair reflection of reality. That, and you don't always know whether someone you meet is autistic.

So I'm going to be in the minority and say I'd cure my Asperger's. I enjoy some things about my Asperger's such as my special interests, unique abilities, and the way I think. However, I really can't stand the loneliness that comes with having it (not to mention my comorbid depression, anxiety, and OCD). So assuming curing it would enable me to have a decent social life and a healthy romantic relationship, I would take the cure, even though it would no doubt completely change me.

Finally, someone said it! I would definitely take the cure, too. Hell, I would probably pay a million dollars for it!

By the way, to all those thinking they could live off the interest on the million dollars - technically, you're right, but your (after-tax) income would be similar to unemployment or disability benefits. If you bought a house first it would be much less - so not even enough to live on, at least not in a developed country. Of course, you could invest it in something with much higher risk and return, but then you're not so safe anymore. So don't quit your day job just yet. ;)

Actually, I could care less for the money because I'm a Jain; nevertheless, I'd still accept it and just give it away to autism clinics and mental health places. Sure, curing my awkwardness and oddities would be nice to help me fit in, but I guess I'm at that age now where fitting in doesn't matter. I'm an outsider and I embrace it.

I would take the million dollars to start my life without my parents finally. Move to New York or California. Fund my own movie and cast myself in it. Pay for rent and food.

Had to think long and hard on this one. I actually think that even without the Aspergers I would still be rather socially isolated. Also have severe anxiety, depression, etc. Those conditions are also isolating. Know a handful of people that seem extremely isolated, but they don't have Aspergers.

I would take the million. I wouldn't give up my Aspergers (high-functioning) for anything in this world, because it's a part of who I am and it's what makes me, me.

I was once on a chairlift at a ski resort and was riding with other passengers and when the chairlift was about 50ft off the ground. I ask them. If someone where to give you a million dollars, would you jump off the chair at 50ft? The response I got was, no way, just the medical bills alone would eat up the $1M, not to mention, you would be in a wheel chair for the rest of your life. They even told me that they would not even do for 1 billion dollars.

Actually a 50 foot fall would be fatal, unless something miraculously cushioned the impact. So someone would have to be pretty stupid to take that deal.

You would be broke soon. They would counter with 10 million dollars. Anyway the JRC has already been exposed. It didn't do any good.

A million isn't much, but free untaxed money is free untaxed money. As for my AS - well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

IMPORTANT: ...I need to do a paradigm-update after recently just learning about this TED talk...

Quoting comments made in response to the video of the TED Talk that I feel are of most relevance...

It would have been great if he had said how to fix this problem and what the basic process would be. It's obvious that each person's solution has to be tailored but other than just brain scans most likely via MRI or CT scans, I would like to know more about how they would go about this, especially if they have gained major grounds. This could help out society immensely. Cheers to advances in medicine.

Read The Mood Cure. It outlines the cure. Check out the reviews on Amazon and buy the cheap amino acids that rebuild the brain. Pharma doesn't want you to fix your brain because it is a major money maker for the industry. The Mood Cure - and the Amen Clinics - heal the brain.

Apparently there's a very high potential that the cures & treatments may have already been discovered based on actual brain-scans (rather than those interviews/surveys/questionnaires that are typical of DSM-Psychiatry).

I would rather die than be cured of Asperger's syndrome. Surprises me that 9% of people would rather be cured than get a million moneys.
