As a child, were you extremely talkative or very quiet?

When I was a kid, I just wouldn't stop talking. I LOVED to talk endlessly about everything that popped into my mind. A truly endless process...

But as I got older, without knowing I had AS, I found out that no one likes a full grown man who won't shut up. So now, here in my mid 30's, I am a very quiet man. I would dearly, dearly enjoy being able to talk to someone non-stop about everything under the sun. But there's just no room for that behavior in this world. Unless it's a Jay and Silent Bob movie. And you're Jason Mewes.

:D

Apparently, I talked a lot and was always asking questions about everything, always very curious about everything...and also pretty controlling with the few friends I had...everything had to be my way. Now, I am the opposite unless I am feeling in a certain mood. I am very quiet, although if there is something connected to an interest, I can talk a lot. If I am especially isolated and haven't talked for some days, I can have a phase of talking a lot.

I'm almost always very quiet, except when I'm upset, when I go on one of my rants, or when I'm curious about something. My Mother says when i do speak i speak too fast, and always at the most inappropriate times when shes listening to music, driving (she can't talk and drive), speaking on the phone (I don't understand this one, I'm more important than anyone shes talking to over the phone), when she's busy, ect.

From about age 2 to 10 I would talk and talk . Sometimes mostly to adults. Afterword, I became more social withdrawn and would only talk to my few close friends. The teen years and through out my twenties were the hardest.

Yeah very similar to some of the comments here. For the most part I would only talk to the other "eccentric" kids and end up befriending only one to spend all my time with. I have always been quiet though my family and teachers would tell me when I was younger that I would never stop asking questions. I never wanted to discuss anything, I just wanted to know how things worked. And of course I also have the button to the floodgates accessible to anyone who happens to touch on a special interest subject of mine hehe. For the most part I just like to listen when people talk about various subjects that they know a lot about. If you are a person with AS who likes to gasbag a lot about the things that interest you then you will likely get along very well with me. Many NT's will go on and on aswell, like one of my friend's mother, but jeepers it gets mundane quick.

Up until I was about 3 I was known for being really talkative and loud with it. That changed almost overnight and since then I've been very quiet. As I've got older, I've made more of an effort, so I probably talk quite a lot now, but not usually naturally.
