It's easier to transmit the emotions that way. Also not all anime has big eyes....

Ditto. Even since seeing Robotech when I was younger, then Sailor Moon and Gundam Wing and Tenchi Muyo!

Yeah but we are over doing it thanks to the Japanese. Big eyes are for aliens, cute things and animals, not everything.

It's been 3 years since I last responded to this thread. I find that the older I get, the less I enjoy anime and the more cynical I feel towards it. I feel so burned out.

Several years ago, I loved anime because all of it seemed so fresh and new. Now all I see is the same art style, plot elements and character archetypes being rehashed between various series.
I tried to convince myself that it wasn't a childish hobby because the anime I liked had curse words, blood and sexual references in them. But looking back, I realize that just because something is "adult" doesn't mean it's "mature".
As an aspiring artist, I regret trying to ape the generic anime style rather than learn important art skills such as anatomy, shading and perspective. I also regret all the money I spent on DVDs, manga and other merchandise; it was indeed a very expensive hobby, and it was all for nothing now that I've lost all my passion for it.

If other people want to obsess over anime, they certainly can. I won't bash them for it because I used to obsess over it too. But it's just not for me anymore. I've moved on to what I feel is best for me at this point in time.

I can see what Eggman is talking about. Some people don't like it because of its popularity. But some of us have been into it for many years. The first anime film I remember was Akira. It was R rated and I could have been about 10 so I wasn't allowed to watch it which made it even more desirable. My brother also watched some very X rated anime called Liquid TV I think. Actually that was an MTV show but it had some anime and because I was under 10 I thought it was x-rated. Then my sister and I got into Neon Genesis Evangelion. After that I got into Ghost in the Shell. Then there was Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and a few more I've forgotten.
Actually I think the very first anime would have been Sailor Moon, Astro Boy and there was this other anime that I can't remember but it was similar to Sailor Moon.
A few years back I got into Bleach, Eureka Seven, and Trinity Blood.
I just watch kids anime these days: Avatar, Naruto, Dragon Ball, etc.
Just yesterday I found an old drawing pad and there were my own anime drawings. I was pretty good back then.

It would be interesting to see some new anime.

I also think as time goes by, I get better at understanding of the nuances. Some prpgrams that were simple funny, silly, or action packed as a child now I see has having more deeper meanings I just ddint get the first time around

I watch it, but not very often. I'll have to agree about the facial expressions. It's just easier to read. The archetypes don't change much, but they haven't changed much in the past five hundred years.

I guess this is sort of like NTs who don't want to 'think too much'. We're comfortable going on endlessly on an intellectual level, but not a social one. They're comfortable going on endlessly on a social level, but not an intellectual level.

I would rather take away any facial features from everything and make them more mechanical and egdy (not hip, the opposite of smooth) and with a lot of corners.
Like origami things (back to Japan again)
I will post an image that I really enjoy that employs the art style I like.
But first;
I like Dragonball (Z, GT) and Naruto (Shippuden) for the long talks and cool magic things.
I also really enjoy Digimon and Pokemon.
I also have Pokemon games which are really great.
Now for the image:

There was a better image showing the original artwork but I cannot find it.
Anyway I like that deer.
It looks nice because it seems a bit mechanical, like the Pokemon Porygon Image whose name is obviously derived from polygon which is basically what it is.

Liking Anime as an adult is a geek thing, not an aspergers thing. Just so happens many aspies are also geeks.

I don't like it personally, I did when I was a kid.

Believe me, Sailor Moon definitely does not have Asperger's. The character on that show who is the likeliest candidate for Asperger's is Sailor Mercury; I can see Sailor Neptune having Asperger's as well.
