A classic story was at a neighbor's home. We were having a condo board meeting and her cat came over to say hello. I bent down started to pet the cat and said, "you lost weight." My neighbor cracked up laughing and told me her daughter brought that cat back from college. They looked identical, except for the weight. She loved to repeat that story whenever we got together.

I tend to talk to animals like they are humans. It's fun and most people get a good laugh out of it.

An Aspie moment? I hope so.

Every moment for me seems to be an Aspie moment.

We tend to persevate, so Aspie experiences are rarely a moment.

Do they want us to work overtime to get it done? Is it lacking something they want? Do they want us to go to the next stage? Is progress too slow?" And so I am sitting in the corner, obsessing over some corporate jargon while the discussion has moved on to other things (turns out she meant "We like the project. Let's go to the next stage.")

When I read this, my first thought was "this would have made me face-punching mad". Then, I realized that reading and then imagining it had already caused this reaction. One of the things I *don't* miss about working full time is that maddening use of jargon.

Oh me too. But I try not to overdo the detail--if they don't escape I'm stuck talking too long and I have too many tasks to complete and objects to obsess over to be stuck talking to a nypical for long!

Just remembered another recent one: NThubby and daughter Beckafly both told me I don't headbang right. We were listening to Skillet

Upon reflection I expect my version of headbanging looks more like the common Aspie stim known as rocking. Very stiff, but at least I have the beat and stay on tempo when I rock. I think if I did it the way real rockstars do I'd lose my glasses and get whiplash and maybe even fall over screaming. :nerdy:

I don't know about an "Aspie" moment but I have plenty of mental moments since I'm far from normal. Ones I can think of off the top of my head:

-Thinking of a song when someone speaks. This has happened a lot with my bf. I stop mentioning it after a while but I'm always thinking of a song.

-Repeating myself a few times when talking to myself. Still not sure why I do that. It just happens randomly.

-Zoning out without warning. My mom always likes to describe it as "deer in headlights"

-When the wind blows really hard, I turn to the opposite side of where it's blowing

-If someone is holding my hand and their hand is dry I immediately pull my hand away

-Asking questions on a regular basis to my mom about feelings I am currently having because I am freaking out or may be at danger to be (huge hypochondriac)

-Sometimes go to the bathroom after I just went

-Slack on other things if I messed up my routine. The whole day is wasted when I don't do my sites and I also get sleepy because of it. Wish I knew how to stop this. I also like to finish everything in one area before starting another task

I Laugh when Hurt. Cry when Excited or Happy. and Stim when Anxious. And all of these randomly. It makes it impossible to mask my symptoms of autism. Image Image Image

when i was little i used to go to the pokedex website (pokemon has been my longest special interest so far) and i would pretend im interviewing the pokemon! i loved it it was so much fun, i did it even if i was at my grandparents house using their computer. one time though my grandpa walked in and laughed at me since i was talking to myself, i cried and never did it again :/ it was one of my fav stims but even today im embarassed of verbal stimming around anyone

also, i was a surprisingly picky eater! my mom bought a box of mac n cheese with the noodles in the shapes of pokemon, and she thought she was being awesome! i was excited since they were pokemon, but i ate some and i cried and hated it because since the noodles were a different texture from the macaroni i always ate, i thought it was really gross. over time i got over it though and now i would love pokemon mac and cheese!!

something i learned aout my aspergers: pokemon and crying will always be the constants in my life, haha

I was on a dual carriageway during a driving lesson and the instructor said to go quickly past foreign lorries (they're on the other side so you're in their blind spot). I sped up to 85mph to go past (limit is 70), he meant don't hang about next to them in case they don't see you and pull into the lane, I thought he meant to go faster past the Lorry.

Gosh, where do I begin. Smelling everything in public. Don't do it as much now. But in junior high I did. Like book paper and phones, watches, clothes and on and on.

And.... I used to look up with my eyes all the time. Was a terrible thing and I got brutally made fun of in school for it... hehe. It doesn't bother me now though.

And tap my fingers constantly. And was just BORED in school ALL the time. Being introverted on the computer is where the magic happens.

And there is probably about a million other things, but these came to mind.

The very first "Aspie moment" I can remember was when I was in preschool. We were learning how to cut things out of paper, and were given a picture of a fireman to cut. The teacher said to "cut along the lines." Well...his mouth was a line. His nose was a line. The stripes on his jacket were lines. So I cut every line, and then the teacher said I wasn't doing it right, so she gave me another. I had to do this twice more until the teacher didn't have any left. She never made it clear to me what she meant; I was just doing what she said.

I am also a pretty picky eater which is bad because I have gastritis so I'm supposed to not eat most things.

Is this an Aspie moment?

I constantly reply conversations and practice conversations.

My favorite stim is running back and forth in the hallway of my home while listening to the favorite part of a anime/cartoon intro I like, I would play the song in my head or have a computer turned up high as possible nearby playing it, if I have a mp3 player I keep setting it to rewind back to my favorite part of the song, I prefer getting in sync with it like whenever I complete a "lap" I want the part to be over so I don't rewind in the middle of running. While listening to the song I'd usually just have the animations that go with the song in head (like if I'm listening to a Naruto opening then I'm visualizing the Naruto opening used with that song).

I was with my family in a hospital one night waiting for my sister, the place was pretty empty so I found a hallway for me to move back and forth in and a couple minutes later a security guard comes over and ask what the hell am I doing since he was watching me through the surveillance cameras. I had no idea what to say.

I also like quoting stuff from my favorite shows but lately I've been shouting out broken English quotes from anime. I was waiting for a train the other day and was thinking about JoJo, I shouted out Za Warudo! luckily I managed to stop myself in time from doing the pose that goes with it. Luckily all the other times I do it is outside and not many people concentrated in one area as I've shouted out phrases like "You're already dead!" or "ORAORARORA" or "Yo wa shock!".

Getting asked by a cousin why I always bring the conversations back to myself and being surprised because I didn't realise I did that so much. I do it because it's the only way I know how to relate to other people and bond.

Also I'm terrible at reminding myself to not hog the conversation. I get excited and chatty about something and I forget other people would like a chance to speak!
