I see music this way. Chords and scales on visual instruments like piano and guitar make up "pictures" on the instrument and I categorize them in my mind as they relate to each other.

Also in sequencers when I composed electronic music I would memorize patterns by the pictures they made on the screen.

I'm not really musically gifted to begin with, but I have an affinity for pattern recognition. I learned that way and had enough drive to eventually transcend being borderline tone-deaf :P

I think this is why video games like Minecraft is so popular among autistics. The cubes make patterns and you memorize geometric shapes to make up the parts of buildings so you can quickly recall parts from your mind and then put them together. At least I think like this when playing that game.

I see music as patterned wavelengths in my mind if I close my eyes while listening to music.

I hope you're planning on going to University, Kuraudo.

Are you in Ontario?

I know somebody who lives in Mississauga, in Greater Toronto.

Yep, I'm in Ontario. I might go to the Georgian University or Trent next year, but I'm not sure yet.
You can call me Kura if you want, since a lot of my friends on this site do.

What do you prefer to be called?

I howl like a wolf and meow like a cat. My nickname at work is "Wolfman."

I know somebody who went to Guelph University, and got a degree in social work.

If autism is a gift, does that mean I can return it?

I see loopholes in the NT culture(s) sometimes.
Anyone can see it if they're trying hard enough. Things that NTs could easily missed due to the fact that they have those 'rules' subconsciously.
I take advantage of that loophole at every opportunity...

I believe every NT culture has a loophole that allows autistic traits to pass under the radar. Without the need of acting NT at all.
The pattern varies in your own birthright, or initial "stand point". (Social status you came with) And your own "people connections". (This is where autistics are weak at in general) The rest plays with your personality and attitude.

And I'd say being foreign has it's own perks.

My other "talents" are nothing special or sort. They're usually just another typical visual thinker's abilities and skill sets.

I'm happy you feel this way, but you have so many diverse talents and that makes it extremely difficult to believe that your condition as very severe. I have no such talents, almost no friends, and people ostracize me like I'm some kind of freak. What a great Fn gift I have!

That depends on how you define severe. I do have random bouts of depression, perfectionism, and self-esteem issues on top of sensory issues and all of that. If you let me be your friend, then you'll at least have someone who will listen. Sometimes I wonder if that's what people really want. Anyway, I really want to help you since I can't stand it when someone's hurt or in pain!

This whole thread is painful if you ask me.
But no one asked me so I'll drag my negative ass outta this rampant positivity.

"Asperger's and Autism Are Gifts!" - I agree!

I have incredible concentration/hyperfocus to the point where nothing else (except what I'm focusing on) exists. My record is 20 hours programming straight - no breaks.

I can spot patterns everywhere.

Animals love me. I can relate to animals on a level others don't seem to be able to. I understand them and they understand me!

I can listen to the same song over and over (and over and over and over and over) again! I get lost in harmonic sounds!

I remember events as pictures.

If I care about what I'm doing, I'll do (and redo and redo) it until I'm happy with it (perfectionist) - If I don't care about what I'm doing, wild donkeys can't make me do it.

There's more.

Kura - Love This Thread :)

I have known ASD programmers like that.

Truly amazing to have such focus.
