I like cooking so naturally I like going grocery shopping. I like to go when its not busy and crowded though. So yeah grocery shopping is a special time for me. And it takes me up to an hour

I usually go on a special trip to the grocery store, once a week on Tuesday afternoons. My parents are at work not far from where I live so they usually drive me down and back. Sometimes I will go to the drug store first to get prescriptions refilled or to picked up a parcel at their post office. The grocery store is close by so I just walk there. Once in a while I'll go to Walmart to buy both groceries and other things I can't get at the grocery store, but I have to pay for a cab ride home because my mom thinks it's too far for her to drive from work. More than once, anyway.

I would like to do my shopping in the evenings when the stores are usually less busy, but my parents will have gone home by then, and I won't get any free rides.

I cannot drive... So store must be within walking distance.

I cannot handle grocery superstores (due to sensory, cognitive, and social overload)... So store must be dollar-store size.

I must carry everything back... So I only pick up a few items each trip.

I have little space for dry, cold, or frozen food... So I only go on 1-2 trips each week.

WalMarts (in US) now offering Grocery Home Shopping where you can order online at Walmart.com and pick up at the store of your choice (WITHOUT EVEN NEEDING TO GO INSIDE)! This programme works well at the Commerce City, CO location (2752) which is overridden with dysfunctional familes and section 8'ers on weekends which I hate dealing with.

I do all my grocery-getting on Saturday afternoon. that is my special trip just for groceries and also sometimes [biweekly] to also attend my local Square Pegs Aspie Meetup. then I also drop in at my sis' place as well. otherwise I just come right back home after the mission goals were accomplished.

I will generally do banking and other chores during the week and save grocery-getting for Saturday.

in my working years I was always on swing or night shift so no I never had enough energy to go shopping after work.

having to make a special trip is already an hassle and interruption of my normal routine, so if anything, a special trip will make me more sensitive to overly bright lighting and excessive noise in the store.

When I lived in some other places I had to combine food shopping with everything else I needed to do downtown because the food store was there and no way I'd bike that round twice. These days I get a ride in my friends car so I oftentimes make exclusive food shopping trips and buy a lot at the same time. I love grocery shopping, especially when I manage to get the items I really wanted, and cheap. I love just walking around, although it is better for me to have a list. My friend thinks I take too long in the store.

I strive to stick to a once-a-week dedicated shopping trip to the one supermarket. I always go with a list, having first walked around my bathroom and kitchen finding which supplies are about to need replacing; those go on the list. I find that doing things this way controls my budget more than if I just shop randomly when I need things.

When I was married my husband was over-relaxed, and we fell into a habit of just going and picking things up as and when needed, several times a week, or stopping by from somewhere else. I realized we spent way more than later on when I was separated and started my own regime of only shopping once a week based on a considered calculation of what's expected to run out. I've been able to stick to my budget, whereas any time I've slipped back into the more willy nilly shopping, I've spent way more again. When you pick up a few things at a time it's easier to lose track of just how much you're spending and how little things get added in.

I go grocery shopping once a month when I get my PWD money. Other than that, I wish not to make another big trip until the next cheque comes.

greetings all,

for me, going to the grocery for a weeks worth of food is quite unbearable. i usually stop on my way home and just get what is necessary. the faster in, the faster out. there are times that even that is too much, so that day will be a pizza delivery day.

i think between the amount of people, the noise and the weird flickering lights, it is too much.

with peace,

JanusOne :D

A quick question about grocery shopping.

I tend to make a "day" of shopping. I hit up several stores to get what I need before going to the grocery store and because I normally pick up things like milk and cheeses, I like going last so the food stays cold. If I'm just shopping for myself/ by myself, I normally plan a trip to a store or two (Michal's, Joanne's, Barnes and Noble for some examples) that I like looking or checking out the pen /craft isles in the stores I'm at as a reward for handling the other stores/ a way to recharge.

If I shop with my family and join the family shopping trip, it's more like
Image. I prefer book shopping with my mom though. She's an English teacher so about once a month, we head over to the local thrift shops to buy books for her room and I normally find books for me along with crochet pattern books too :D

But my preference is one big shopping trip, it's just easier to go to all the stores at once and then I can just hide out for the rest of the month. Unless I need to go to the library.

As a bicycle commuter, I make a trip just to go to the grocery store, though I may do other things on the way there (but never on the way back because I can't take everything with me into another store and I don't want the frozen stuff to melt. The primary reason for this is just convenience, as I don't have many sensory issues in places like the grocery store.

I usually will make a special trip. I think it does help me to mentally prepare and brace myself for the environment of the store, which I sometimes find very stressful and overwhelming. I always get really anxious and often will start rocking and/or hand-flapping when I am waiting in the line to check out.

I hate shopping! I make a trip just to shop so that I have everything I need fresh in my mind and I hurry up and do it as fast as possible. I only go at quieter times and I rarely buy more than a basket full at a time because it takes too long, too much noise, too many people, too much everything, I just can't wait to escape. I often have ten minutes just sitting in the car afterwards to wind down a little before driving home. If it takes too long or I'm shopping after a busy day then I start to melt down, everything is too much, I start to stim and I don't cope well.
