I didn't know they made 200 mcg Melatonin. I take the 1 mg kind. I first tried the 3 mg kind, but I'd wind up very sluggish the next morning, like walking dead. I switched to the 1 mg dosage and it works just fine for me.

Yeah, the kind I get is by Nature's Bounty. As an aspie I like to try the weakest version of something, since my sensitivities are so high.

I have had sleeping problems since early high school. I love taking naps and I used to sleep durring the day as much as I could with no problem going to sleep at night. I also used to get like tingily eyes around 3 int he afternoon and I would just get a sleepy spell and have to take a nap.

Now naps mess me up and even if I dont take a nap, sometimes I cant get to sleep forever because my mind wont shut up or it just doesnt feel right to go to sleep. Sometimes I try doing a few streches and jumping jacks just to get all my energy out because sometimes I am just a bum durring the day and dont use so much energy so it builds up and by night it is all ready to go. Also, I almost always listen to music while going to sleep. It helps to have something I sort of know the words to (but I am not in love with because then I want to stay up and listen) so I can sort of sing along and get bored and just have something to distract my mind from talking.

And when I do get to sleep I always wake up after dreams. I told a doctor about it once that I dont sleep deep enough after I dream and he said that if I dream everything is fine (what a crock!). I looked up "sleep apnea" and I think I did have it for a while. It is where you dont sleep deep because you wake up from lack of air, for one (or maybe both) of two reasons. One is the signals dont get recieved in your lungs or whathave you that help you breathe from your brain for whatever reason. Second is that a physical passage somewhere between your orafaces (nose and mouth) to your lungs get blocked (collapse) for varoious reasons [sometimes it is because people have weight problems and they collapse under weight and sometimes it is because there is some problem with when the body is so relaxed the muscles or something just collapse]. People can go minutes without breathing and sometimes the body just rolls over and the conection goes through or the passage is unblocked (that is why a lot of people don't know they have sleep apnea) or people wake up gasping for breath (which I did a few times). the lack of oxygen in the blood the lack of breathing creates I think lowers the pH in the blood and other things and that can cause a variety of problems, one that I experienced I think because of it was chronic head aches that felt just my brain was drenched in poision just soaking it up. plus, the lack of a deep sleep cycles ususally leave the person more tired than before trying to sleep and isnt good because that is when a lot of body reperations are done. I think I have had about 3 tiems where I know I slept deeply in the past 4 years or so.

I tried melatonin for a while, I totally forget what doasage though but I tried a few, and that didnt really work. I totally didnt know it was a anti-oxydent.

whit3rabbit33....

I read that teens need more sleep then anyone other then new borns...all the growth, emotional changes,hormones..sleep good.

Dont exercise before bedtime, light stretching might be OK but it is better to ecercise through out the day(walking, etc)if I dont so this I get restless legs and I have to do "tightening, relaxing" muscles before falling asleep(tighten muscle for a few seconds thenrelax and move to the next muscle),this does help a little.

sleep apnea, yeah, the groogy head and headaches can be an indicator.Long term effect can lead to heart problems due to heart increases pumping to ake up for lack of oxygen(or something like that).Anyway, you are probably safe until your 40's(depending on any family history of heart issues_)but ti wouldnt be a bad idea to have a sleep study for this...te biggest draw back is someone with problems getting to sleep, trying to sleep with a Bi-pap...I toss and turn to much, but someday, may have to try it anyway(I'm 43,so it is more of a concern at my age).

I have serious sleeping problems as wel.
Usually once i sleep it's all good.
Ofcourse 1/2 times a week i wake up overy 2 hours or so without sleeping straight ahead.
The other nights i can sleep for like 12 hours straight if i'm not woken up.

However the main issue is getting to sleep.
I need to be extremely tired to get to sleep.
I used zoplycon for about a year straight.
However this strong chemical sleeping pill had awfull side effects.
It was like each day my muscles became weaker until i couldn't proberbly function at work anymore.
I couldn't do much because my muscles would hurt alot and if i did too much i was in serious risk of a long term muscle injury.

So i came off of that 3 months ago and since than my muscles have had an amazing recovery.
Another side effect ofcourse was that i couldn't function well in the morning at work.
I was slower and could concentrate less well.
Even cans of redbull didn't seem to get me awake properly.
Fortunately i'm getting more work starting late in the morning at 10-12 now wich means i get in alot more sleep.

Uh yeah,I do the same thing with the result that I often stay up half the night( right now its 03.06 am here) until I get so tired Im dizzy.
So...10-15 nights out of a month I cant sleep until early morning and then get up around noon.
Then I get it all right for about 2-3 days and get up early and go to bed early..
Then Im back to being up all night again, mostly because Im stuck doing something and cant get myself to get away form it.......like right now*L*

Exercise seems to work best for me. *Vigorous* exercise a few hours before sleep time. I can't do it too close to bed time because it takes a while to come down. It's a great stress reliever plus I am physically needing the sleep.

I hate trying to fall asleep, it's always been difficult. I remember lying awake for hours after being put to bed as a child. Now I stay awake until I'm ready to sleep, which can often be 3 or 4 in the morning.

My main problems are getting to sleep and then waking up in the middle of the night and being able to go back to sleep. How do people sleep the whole night through? And do people actually take less than an hour to fall asleep? I also have to sleep with two sets of curtains, two heavy blankets and an eyemask.

The best times for me to sleep are between 2 am-11 am. But lately I've been staying up til 4 cuz of insomnia. I dread having to get a real job where I am forced to wake up at 6 every morning. That kind of 9-5 schedule doesn not work for me at all.

I am constantly tired. I wish I could just sleep for 24 hours nonstop.
