fegelah to homosexual...

as far as i know, it's always been used that way. at least for the last 60 or 70 years, probably much longer.

in many languages, bird is synonomous with woman and from there it's not too long a leap to homosexual.

it may be that these words weren't as commonly known to non-yiddish or whatever else speakers? or that until recently english and american society had too many taboos about the subject to get into non-english terms?

i do know that americans get a real kick out of the way fa***t is used in english lit. tee hee. it's buttheadian.

Synner = sinner?
Consider the implications of THAT one.

It needs to be something unconnected to Hans Asperger. Something that simply describes the condition, something like multiple sclerosis, or cancer, that isn't named for a person.

I have no ideas, though.

'autistic' or 'high-functioning autistic' will do. If asked I usually say I have a type of high-functioning autism, as this is usually understood, where AS isn't. As regards the term Aspie it doesnt bother me much either way, but is nice and short to type lol (mind you so is autie, which covers the whole spectrum).

A lot of medical and mental "conditions" are named using Latin words. Anyone know what "Socially Dysfunctional" is in Latin?

I don't have any particular problem with the word aspie itself, but I don't use it often because of my views on how autism is sliced up. But I think it sounds cooler than autie, which I do use. Sounds like aspen trees.

What about Hans Syndrome? hehe (Hans Asperger) j/k here on that one...

Or High-Functioning Autism Type II? (Similar to how Bipolar Disorder has Type I and Type II.)

Well, Aspie is a quick word anyway. I have Asperger's or I'm an Aspie. I'd pick the latter.

Diabetes II,
Maybe HFA II might work?

I like HFA2, but thinking outside the box is still fun.
"Socially Different" in Latin is "amicabiliter diversus". There's probably some way to abbreviate that.

Not to be rude, but using the word "Autism" in any form well instantly stereotype you if you're talking to the right people. I'm trying to think of a word that won't realte to Autism (even though we're technically Autistic) so we don't get stereotyped. I realize this thread is mainly about the fact that "Aspie" among other variatoins of the word "Aspergers" are easily twisted into insults. But you have to remember, the word "Autism" can also be twisted. Many people instantly picture the stereotypical Autistic. With an HFA2, there'd be three forms of Autism, all containg the word "Autism", that's also potentially confusing. That, and the words "High Functioning" in HFA have always confused me. Does that mean that you're better than everyone because you function at a higher level than everyone else because you're Autistic? No. But after hearing the full Acronyms meaning an NT, or anyone really, might think it means something likem that. So really, to avoid insult and stereotyping, we'd have to think of a word that isn't easily twisted with perversion, and doesn't have a stereotype attached. Hope my ranting helps in replacing the annoying title that is "Aspergers".

HFA II makes sense.
