Do people with aspergers have a certain dress sense?

Those sorts of women do exist. I see them on a regular basis when I ride the subway.

You're not being facetious, are you? I really don't think I've ever encountered another such woman before, and the last place I'd expect to is the NYC subway.

I haven't seen anyone dress full-on Victorian, of course.

But I've seen women look really dainty---wearing skirts with cardigan sweaters, looking really elegant. And carrying a musical instrument. Or wearing a nice sundress with a hat.

Femininity is not exactly an obsolete thing....not by a longshot!

I appreciate style. Not fashionable, not trendy, but a rather ineffable sense of style and refinement, especially in women.

Posture and the way you carry yourself will also make a big difference. I've seen people looking elegant in casual, slightly tattered clothes and some looking somehow unkept in nice and clean suits

I don't mind scruffy or tattered if it's not also smelly - and it really suits some people.

I don't like things like wearing pyjamas in public or clothes several sizes too small. And I definitely draw the line at those particularly atrocious low riding jeans, restaurants should have a new dress-code: "please keep your arse-crack covered at all times"

No restaurants or hotels have dress codes in Europe - and I hate it.

I'm sure there are quite a few "upscale" places in Europe which have dress codes.

There are quite a few places in the US which still have dress codes.

I would never go to a "dinner" sort of place without, at a bare minimum, wearing a polo shirt and chino-type slacks

I don't know about England but some "posh" ones in continental Europe require wearing a jacket.

If you deign to go to "such-and-such" Yacht Club, I am sure they require you to wear at least a jacket.

I've been to top-notch Michelin-starred that have them, but they used to be commonplace even in middle-of-the-range establishments.

At places which serve "dinner," there is, at least sometimes, a dress code.

Most of these places don't make the Michelin List.

Some actually provide jackets for the unprepared clients :eew:

You make a good point Kraftie, some of the "posh" ones are not necessarily that high quality on the food side and vice versa.

That reminds me of Jack Nicholson in the film As Good as it Gets refusing, in an OCD moment, the jacket offered to him in the restaurant and having to buy one new from a nearby dress store somehow open in the late evening

And then refusing to enter, buying the jacket from the front entrance

I'm embarrassed to admit how much I empathise with that scene

I belong to a yacht club, and unless it's a formal event most people are wearing topsiders and casual boating attire.

I plead complete ignorance on Yacht Club etiquette
