Why do Aspies stay looking young?
I have a beginning hypothesis that along with some immune issues we may have (both good and bad), our methylation pathways may also be affected. The methylation pathway is involved in eradicating free radicals from our bodies to prevent oxidation which ends up damaging cells. I wonder, what with some of our unusually youthful appearances, if there might not be something regarding our methylation pathways in that we may remove particular types of free radicals which cause skin damage and other types of more obvious outward aging thus keeping us looking strangely youthful.
To me, the idea is one of the few that offers some promise of a scientific explanation as to why some of us are unusually youthful in appearance and it's not just necessarily because we may wear different kinds of clothes or wear less make-up etc.Interesting. So is this looking young thing an actual common thing with people with AS?
I've got some gray hairs now, and I don't know if that changes things, but I know people always think I'm younger than I am. I was "carded" for buying an M rated game a year or two ago, and multiple people have thought I'm in my early 20's (one thought I was a teenager).
I don't think I'm good at guessing ages, but I do think I look younger than a lot of guys who are 30. I've also seen women who are 40 look younger than some who are 20. It's just really weird how that works. Some people age really really well, and others look ancient in their 30's.
scrulie, if that's you in that picture, I've always assumed you were a 19ish444
