Well, that's more a matter of musical taste than of maturity. I hadn't even heard of either of those bands in the first place, much less any songs from them!

On the other hand, I could name five songs by Orbital off the top of my head... most people, I've found, haven't even heard of "Halcyon & On & On". :P

The thing is I can pass that answer on if asked the question and look like an NT, but I can't get to it myself.

Yeah, same here. I understand how it works now that I've read the explanation, but I would've failed the second-order test if left to my own devices.

At least I had no problem with the first-order test...

"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night" uses a different test:
Chris is shown a cardboard tube with a "Smarties" label and asked what's inside the tube. He answers "Smarties". The woman testing him then opens the tube and shows him that there's a pencil inside. She closes the tube again and asks him "If your mother came into the room now, what would she think was in the tube?" to which Chris answered "a pencil", thereby failing the test.

Annelise tested me on this last night while we were waiting around. I went for the box, on the assumption that Sally was a untrusting cynic, but also because I assumed they'd know each others tactics well. Though it makes sense now that Sally would probably check the basket first, before assuming that Anne has been up to something suss.

I say we shoot 'em both!

Now, present me with the Einstein-Freud Test and Einstein will never realize that Freud thinks the marble is a phallic symbol, despite the fact that Einstein has forgotten the marble at home where he absent-mindedly left his pants. (Yes, Einstein is standing around in his boxer shorts.) So this would have never been an issue in the first place. Where will Freud think Einstein has left the marble? NEITHER of them knows because they can't seem to find it.

Someone did a similar test with me last year and I got the "wrong" answer. I wouldn't have had a clue what one doll thought the other one was thinking (assuming they could think at all).

He told me it was my job to learn what other people were thinking since I was in "a minority group". He now wonders why I don't think too much of his ideas.

I've no real idea what other people are thinking - I tend to go by their actions more than anything else.

If there's one area where I do particularly fall down with ToM, it's that I often forget that people don't remember things as well as I do. That's not to say I remember every detail, but I'll often be talking about 'that time' we did something in the past to a person and I'm lucky if they even vaguely remember.

With the Sally and Anne test though, I wonder if it's something where most of us would get it right with a little reasoning, though NTs automatically know the answer?

That question about "who thought what who thought?" becomes exactly that in my head. My brain refuses to deal with questions like that at all. Gah.

Logic is fine. Who the h*ll knows what anybody thinks? I guess that's why I just sit and look at the floor in the face of questions like that.
