What?!

It took me TEN MINUTES to realize the news bite was referring to this article, one I have read before. Let me tell you this is a very botched writeup. The original article I linked only speculates upon the possible reason of the neurological findings they found; they make that rather clear. Every cogsci article has a "Discussion" part where the researchers usually entertain some rather whacked-out hypotheses that could explain their more unexpected findings. It doesn't mean anything until it's followed up by experiments that test the new whacked-out hypotheses. Of course that does not make for interesting news; most science isn't. Heck I've entertained weirder thoughts than this one, but I put them in their right places, in the "Discussion" section. (Or even in an additional "Further questions", etc.)

I wouldn't blame the scientists, they were doing their jobs. I'd blame the mass media. I like blaming the mass media LOL.

Do you find you do this if say you had a traumatic interaction with someone that you did not quite understand that you can go over and over the same situation in your mind and perhaps months or even years later come up with answers :?:

I ask because in such a situation it is as you describe in that i can go over and over the exact same memories searching for an answer.

Nah I know what you mean, but I usually daydream over the weirdest stuff, it doesnt always involve people. I do sometimes daydream over my brother whom I lost due to car accident when he was 19 and half and do that over and over, but thats rarely.

okay, so if thought (since it's in images/visual) is considered "daydreaming" then I do it all the time. I guess I was thinking about it like you see people daydreaming in movies, LOL.

I think when regualr NT people "daydream" their mind sorta shuts off and goes into the REM state like they do when they sleep at night. But Autistic people's brains don't shut off and go into the EM state, they just think about stuff the same way the usualy would. When I "daydream" I am still aware of everything around me and I can't see pictures as if it were really happning.

hehe, be careful, there are many researchers here at WP :)

Honestly, I'd agree with nutbag, exchanging the word "many" for "most". I made a habit of reading scholarly journal articles, and so often under all that smug scholarship, there are some really glaring errors. The peculiarities of a certain popular parenting philosophy are based almost entirely on faulty interpretation of data. It makes me ill.

Why the HECK does anyone even care about semantics? I can imagine and create worlds, some even seem to get their own life! It can get to be like a dream with every aspect appearing real.

Why would I care what some IDIOTS call it. Their "experiment" is STUPID! Even a DIRECT measurement on a KNOWN component on a KNOWN condition could yield a VERY wrong result! HOW??? Here is an example!....

1. Faster wheel movement on the ground leads to faster motion. FACT!
2. Given the same ratios, faster engine speed means faster wheel movement. FACT!
3. Faster engine speed, all other things being equal, means faster power consumption. FACT!
4. Using their stupid testing, faster power consumption means the vehicle is moving faster! ******WRONG******! The air conditioner may be running, the radio might be on, maybe there is more work that needs to be done.

Still, that 1-4 is on a KNOWN situation. People have a hard enough time understanding some of my ideas. How could they hope to relate a vague reading of some part of my brain to what I am doing?

my theory on that is that it's more like we are "lucid-daydreaming".... that state of mind is more akin to lucid dreaming (running with your NT comp of daydreaming to REM state of mind). i've noticed in a few papers that this (lucid) level of conciousness is distinctly partitioned from the state of mind in REM.

similarly (or not).... ive read in some papers that people who are narcoleptic have experiences similar to ppl who go through near death experiences.... the whole tunnel thing...

As a musician, I am always day dreaming about something. Most of the times, my daydreams become compositions :)

Addendum:

I question my surroundings and myself constantly; I don’t play things out in my head, that’s something that doesn’t exist...so how can I possibly “pretend”? I have no idea how a conversation or event will play out in the future...as there’s an infinite amount of variables; I’d die from over-thinking.

'...oh, shiny object,' *insert a whole heap of somewhat tangible but usually useless descriptive language here*, and after I’ve done that I move on to the next thing that I see, then I’ll alternate between questioning my conclusions and answers; I’ll then switch back to physical objects.
