Is Trump autistic?
Trump has a record of being a compulsive liar. Not an AS trait at all, nor is his malignant narcissism. He shows no capacity for a love of knowledge for its own sake - whereas love of knowledge is an AS trait - nor does he appear to have much ability to think in detail. He just reacts, and his Twitter nonsense is without any kind of coherent analysis. He never reads and doesn't appear to have any time for animals. Trump's only special interest is Trump, as far as I can see, even to the point of misappropriating money from charities to spend on his own promotion. He has no apparent talent in music, maths and so on, he appears to have a poor memory, and he is shameless. He is the antithesis of AS types.
I can't understand why anyone would even frame the question, frankly.
I have been reading all of President Trump’s books, in chronological order. I’m midway through his sixth book, Think Like a Billionaire (2004). I think there are 14 more. If anyone wants to know about what the books said, let me know. I can make a thread with a summary.
I have a thing where I don’t trust items unless they are a direct source, so I always prefer autobiographies when I’m learning about someone.
I can’t tell if he is on the autism spectrum. He does have some autistic mannerisms or habits, but it’s hard to tell when someone lives atypically. He has been a billionaire for so long that he can pick and choose things from our culture to adopt. For example, he has had the ability to choose his own environment since he was a child in military school. We would have to compare him to a billionaire autistic person living in Western Civilization, and even it wouldn’t be good enough because one comparison isn’t enough.
Also, I don’t think we can use terms like narcissistic personality disorder when we talk about famous billionaires. Normal life has no meaning at that level. Like who do we compare Oprah to?
The super rich are a sub-society on their own. Famous people are a sub-society. Famous, super rich people (Bill Gates, Oprah, Pres Trump, British royals maybe?) are an even smaller circle, who can’t be assumed to have much in common with each other, and also can’t be assumed to live to the standards that the rest of us do. Psychology has to have a baseline normal state in order to say that something is abnormal. Let’s say someone doesn’t speak. If they are deaf, the mutism is not a psychological problem. If there is nothing wrong with their ears or vocal structures, then they might be diagnosed with something that counts as a mental or emotional disorder. Attempts can then be made to normalize the person. But see, if there is no normal state, such as with billionaire famous people (Oprah, Trump, Gates), it’s hard to say when anything is a problem.
