Not to offend anyone who likes chicken nuggets but no I don't like them, I tried them once at BK & it wasn't fun.

I generally won't touch with with a barge pole. At birth male chicks are killed because roosters don't produce eggs. The factory farms that produce chicken nuggets for McDonald's, KFC and frozen food companies are also fond of throwing the newborn male chicks onto a conveyer belt that leads to a machine that crushes them all with a pincer movement.

Be nice guys. Sometimes, we ask questions out of pure curiosity.

I LOVE chicken. But I am also a chef... I find the texture of chicken nuggets abhorrent.

I don't like chicken nuggets without salad.

Can salad make someone more autistic?

Yes, almost everyone who has had an autistic child has at some point in their life eaten salad.

^^Maybe there is a relation between the green of the salad and the green of aliens.

I was hoping there would be at least one other vegan here. Thankfully, there are also "vegan" chicken nuggets that taste very similar.

I eat them like they're potato chips....

One link between them and ASD is that many aspies prefer simple food such as plain meat and rice. Nuggets fill that criteria farely well.

Roosters still produce meat, though, don't they??

They do but chickens produce eggs before they are killed for meat so in the farmers' eyes it is economically inefficient to keep the roosters. The chicken gives them two streams of income. Probably the cost of feeding a male chick to adulthood would be more than they would get for the rooster meet too. Animal farming is tragic, the way it is done. In an ideal animal farming situation you would let all the males live, and only eat the animals for meat when they die naturally of old age. In reality it is a cruel and calculated business. It's a shame.

Yeah. The article I read in Discover years ago said that there are egg farms and then there are meat farms. Its only the egg producers that cull out the male chicks on the conveyer belt (the article said that they just let them pile up at the end of the conveyer belt and allow their collective weight to crush them to death), but the meat farmers use both sexes. Whatever. Different operations probably do things slightly differently.

Female animals are farmed due to male aggression, the males will fight and injure each other and the farm hands. Female chicks have the tips of their beaks removed when the chicks are sexed and the males removed and destroyed. That's why you will not see Cocks, Boars or Bulls in any large number on a farm, also testosterone adds an undesirable taste to meat.

The chickens that are used for cuts of meat are bred separately, they are killed when young, so that the meat is tender, older animals are much tougher. Usually killed at 4 to 6 weeks, due to large doses of hormones they grow so quickly that their legs cannot support their own weight.

Once a laying hen has spent all it's energy on eggs, they are often starved at the end of their lives to produce stress laying so the last few clutches also cost less, they will be used as meat and flavour for soup and stew products as the meat is deemed to be unpalatable for anything else.

If we had empathy, would we be asking if the chicken nuggets liked us back?

If we had Theory of Mind, we might even know the answer.
