Australia. The real Australia - you know, the western side. Not like the East, damn English-convict descendents and their gya madigras. I'm talkin' to you, Sydneysiders! You and your... pope and weak, almost foreign beer! Yeah! Take THAT!
Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to watch some REAL AFL, not "rugby" or "soccer", and drink Hahn!
Hahahahaha!

Seriously, though, I'm kidding - Eastern and Western Australians have a friendly rivalry, nowadays.
But the reason Canberra was founded was just so we wouldn't start a civil war!

Oh good if you didn't say that you were jokeing I was going to say something about being in the middle of no where and having a small population or something. But WA and TAS are the only parts i have not been to in Australia, what is it like there? Also I was going to say stuff when you said Sydney sider as I curently live in Sydney, though I consider myself more of a Brisbane boy.

yep, canberra was a comprimise.
melbourne served as capital at first but then there was arguements between sydney and melbourne about who should be the capital. the solution was to take some land from NSW and make a new city in a new territory the permanent seat of government.
I am a melbourne girl, born in sydney, educated in adelaide and tasmania and melbourne (so i have been nearly everywhere in the country)

there has been a rivalry between sydney and melbourne for as long as there has been a sydney and melbourne.
it is a friendly one. mostly.

as for the AFL, it is a part of life in victoria.

I frickin' hate it when Melbournites or Sydneysiders come to Adelaide, and all they do is b***h. Just for a laugh; next time I'm in Melbourne, I'm going to be the one riding the trains and loudly complaining to anyone and everyone about the lousy public transportation of the city. Hah! Take THAT, Melbourne! That's for every time I've had to listen to Vics b***h and moan to one another on trains and in the street! If ya don't like Adelaide; keep it to yourself! Not every Melbournite does b***h, of course, but, geeze... the ones that do make enough noise... interstate tourists are worse than international tourists.

I like the international nature of Wrong Planet; there's a strange contrast between its global connectivity and the inability of people like myself to connect with the people around us, locally in real life.

I think you are probably right today, but the OPs' pie chart is from 2004- it's years out of date. It would be interesting to see a current evaluation of where WP members live.
