Whether this works depends on a lot of stuff you can't control, like the personalities of the staff people, but have you tried written negotiation?

I assume that there is some kind of schedule or structure where you are. If you can negotiate that they must not tell you what to do for more than (5, 4, 3) hours straight, it sounds like you'd even be better off not allowed to leave your room the rest of the time than to go into meltdown. Try to have the agreed-on interference time less than what it actually takes to make you melt down; that leaves some wiggle room for when they or you are being extra stupid that day. Have a minimum of time they have to leave you alone in between. If you can convince them to follow a written agreement of what they will or will not do of the stuff that causes you problems, you might have better luck; but, people are stupid, and if the staff is stupid in this paticular area, I don't know what would be helpfull.

The other advantage to written communication is that it creates a record that you were being reasonable and trying to create alternatives, which I assume should be helpfull if you end up sueing.
