In fact the whole experience would probably affect me for years. I do agree that you need a significant sample though for population statistics.

The point of the example story was that you couldn't make an accurate assumption about the composition of the vat based on the small convenience sample that was taken. I almost wrote it so that another person had dropped the marbles into the vat, but I figured that was unnecessarily complicated since that wasn't the point of the example. The initial bit was just set-up. In real life, you don't know the exact make-up of the population you are sampling. That's why you have to take a sample in the first place. All you can do in real life is to try your best to make sure that it is representative.

Unless you've done some heavy drinking in the past few years, I'd expect it would be about the same.

ok im gonna be hated for this but:

First of all IQ's dont vary like: well last year i had 120 and today i have 140 etc. There is a reliability factor in them that prevent the number to iterate so much (specially in such little time). For most of the time we have the same IQ our whole life and it doesnt change much. Maybe 5 points less, maybe 5 points more. Between each single number there is a vast difference.

Second studies say its not uncommon for aspies to have a higher IQ, but it is nothing like its reflecting the poll. Prolly most of us are around the 120-129 scale. If it was like the poll said WP would be the equivalent of mensa.

The test that ratifies your IQ the best is the WAIS, or Wechsler Scale. It is composed of 14 subtests, like information, vocabulary, similarities, picture completion etc. and only a professional can administer and interpret the results. Online tests measure nothing, they have no validity nor reliability.

Did two IQ tests in my life. First time had something around 135 and second time around 120. Given the difference in results and purely out of curiosity I would be keen on doing a third one but I am not sure where to go for a reliable IQ test. Is there anywhere on the web where I can find a really reliable one or is it best to go straight to mensa or so?

I've taken several IQ tests, some online, some written, all timed (the ones done in school were confidential, only the school knew the results) I've done some mensa tests too. Scores varied between 155 and 162. The only tests I've taken on record were for specific skills, and were done by an employment psychologist while I was seeking work through the job center. I got 99% (there isn't a higher possible grade) on the spatial skills one, which compares you to university entrants for art and design courses. On that one I completed it and had time to recheck all my answers with 10s to spare. On the logic and reasoning test I scored 83%, but the result was off, as I didn't use the provided paper for any working, I did it all in my head (damned arrogance at work).

I try not to be arrogant about my IQ, but it seems that just being intelligent around NTs is seen as being arrogant. Intelligence is one skill that isn't appreciated by society and should be hidden away (I'm guessing this is why a lot of other aspies are depressed too, not being able to use your gifts to help other people). Partly why the world is going round the U-bend.

BTW my favourite film is Idiocracy by Mike Judge ;)

I KNOW! I hate that just doing well in school is considered showing off! Should I do poorly to make them feel better about themselves?

What's with the question marks beside the low IQ ranges? Do you honestly think that we're all Mentally ret*d? I've tested with a score of 115 at my local Children's Hospital, at the age of 17. I may not have the highest IQ here, but I'm still above average in intelligence. I would also like to add that not all students in the Special Education system are Mentally ret*d. Most of us members who have admitted to being in Special Ed, on this board, have been put there as children, because of our social or emotional issues. Do you honestly have nothing else to do? Do you have any homework? I'm judging that you're still in High School, by the arrogant title of this thread, and the ignorant questions with question marks beside the ret*d and Borderline ret*d ranges.

Somewhere in the 150s. My mother won't give me the exact number because she doesn't want my sister and I (also in the 150s) to hold anything over one another.

I think that is much more to the climate and culture of our society rather than their inherent nature. This not only hold for people who are in the upper range of the ASD's, but anybody who is even reasonably intelligent in general. There was a time when being smart and educated lead to great respect....

In any case, most of those will just end up working in some cubicle, or worse. Do not feel discouraged by the attitudes of other people, it will pay off by the time your in college and beyond.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The problem with you guys is, you care way too much about what other people think. I personally had no qualms showing off my above average intelligence or special abilities

This is due to the popular misconception that "low IQ"=stupid, which isn't necessarily the case. I challenge anyone here to match what Kim Peek can do!

The influence and evils of our mainstream and shallow media is not limited to NT's...
