Oh they hum like angels! You're never alone if you've got a fluorescent light.
Fluoros don't worry me particularly, besides, I'm not sure they use them in the house, they're terrible for filming (weird colour temperature, creates a flickering in a lot of cameras, etc.) better of using normal tungsten lighting or little halogens and lots of 'em.
