I have to agree with Cdarwin here, the rotten meat scent makes perfect sense in nature, and objectively there's nothing whatsoever "ugly" about it. The very idea that a flower should smell like this is engaging and, when one comes to think about it, wonderful.

I like irises a lot, too - I posted a few pictures of different ones a while back. I've never seen a black iris though, or even heard that those exist (will have to do a search on DA and other places, now that you've mentioned it).
