OMG I do this too. I would listen to the first 20 seconds of BSB songs. ^^

I have always done that and it drives my family nuts. I am not always sure why I like a certain song--it might be just a turn of a phrase, a short riff, or a couple of notes that really emote something. With others, it is the rhythm or the tone of the singer's voice in just a part of the song. I have to listen to it a lot to get it out of my system, then I can listen to other stuff.

Definitely, it's really easy for me to get obsessed with a song once it captures my imagination.

oops...;)
I'm the complete opposite. Hear something once? why hear it again?
My granddaughter likes the song 'Soulja Boy', and has to hear it over...and over...and over. I'm looking forward to the day she likes something else...;)

I'm so sick of the top 40 station..both the wife and daughter listen to it. I get into a segue kind of thing, where some song with 'everything's gonna be all right, no one no one...; gets turned into 'Small Town Girl' by Journey, then 'Girls just want to have fun', same chord progression. I get punched a lot for breaking out into the wrong song. (btw, the beat is the same as a 9" Nails song [closer to God?]..;)

Maybe we should take a poll to see how many people who own iPods, and other portable devices, keep them on single/repeat more than shuffle or album repeat, etc.

I find I have put my iPod on single/shuffle/repeat many times, for some odd reason

It's probably because sometimes I'll play the same three songs in repeat and have that on shuffle, then at some point change it to play only one song, depending on my mood.

When I discovered Audacity, and GarageBand, I found a new way to appreciate music.

For example, there is this Randy Newman song, "When She Loved Me", and it's quite short - 00:01:03 ... just an instrumental.
It's quite melancholy which fits my mood for the past couple of years.
I created an endless loop so seamless, I can't tell where I repeated and spliced it together.

For those of you who love those little snippets played over and over, you should look in to Audacity if you don't have GarageBand.

They're lots of fun to play with.

Oh man, I'm so glad it's not just me! My classmates have been giving me funny looks for years, because I do this with my old discman on the train. I'll listen to the same song on constant replay for days, or if I'm conserving battery power, the same CD. They can never figure out why I don't get an iPod, so I can have more variety, especially when we have a long commute. I get fixed on it, though. Books and TV/movies are the same. Some, I'll only read once and never again, some I lose interest in, and some I have to constantly replay until I get fixed on something else. And then I have some that I have to listen to/watch in certain situations, like every single time I get even a little bit sick, I have to watch the BBC Pride and Prejudice. It's so fun!

Yup, if I'm in the car by myself I'll play the same track over and over. Glad it's not just me...

I was playing Mahjong on my computer earlier today and noticed this...

Certain types of music help me concentrate better.
Actually I learned this a while back.
Typically during school, I will put on heavy rock like STAIND, LinkinPark, ThreeDaysGrace, Hinder, BreakingBenjamin, Seether, etc., and just play the same song or songs over and over in an endless loop with my headphones on.

It seems to occupy some part of my brain so I can use the rest to do my work with.

I noticed today that when I had some different music on and I was playing the game, I couldn't seem to get into a groove.
When I put on my heavy rock, I concentrate MUCH BETTER and find myself moving more vigorously than before.

I think it helps to have something repetitive that I don't have to think too much about and that connects with some physical sense in my too.

hehe, me too! I listen to a mix of NIN/ministry/metallica(old ones)/Helmet/klaxons to concentrate!

also, I found out that classical music is so stressing to me!! !

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that does this.

My parents used to get driven mad by it... poor things. They would never take my CDs/recorded music off me though as it's always been one of my biggest obsessions, but they did ban me from playing certain songs on the piano while they were home as I'd play them over and over and over and they'd get incredibly sick of them. ;)

I look down my iTunes and there are some songs that have play counts of 10,000, and others with play counts of 20. :?

I should also add that I do it with films. When I was a toddler my parents tell me I used to watch the same film over and over, twice a day, for 2 years. I know all little kids do that, but they usually get sick of the film after a few weeks, and they don't get massively upset when they don't see it at the right time of day every day!

When Ever After came out I watched it 80 times in about 3 months.

I do the same thing, most recently with Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.

Yeah, Ive got a 6 disc CD changer in the trunk of my car and only get around to changing it when I get a new CD, or after months and months of listening to the same CDs. And even then, I leave some of the same ones in. Full Moon Fever and Appetite for Destruction have had a permanent spot in my CD changer since I bought them back in June. Queen's Greatest Hits has also been in there for quite a while, despite originally putting it in as a joke that anyone thats read Good Omens would get.

I do that too, I can listen to the same song for days and weeks even. I don't like it when music changes all the time.
Go figure I didn't realise it might bother other people who don't do this.
