my culinary talents rejected once again. Ah well :P

Come to think of it.. have you asked a dentist / orthodontist about it? They are the ones that work with teeth all the time and may give you some options. Who knows, maybe they can make you one of those new type of braces which you dont get wires across your teeth but instead you something like this:

Image

.... and make you one that has spots on the molars filled with that hard plastic thing they make their molds out of which is almost indestructible .. and it can give you the sensation of chewing on something.

I had to wear one of those things for half a year and man they can withstand a LOT of biting. My first set had the rear teeth a bit 'over' the top and I couldn't shut my jaw unless I bit down on it constantly. Maybe it will work for you :)

Yea u know thats weird, last time i was at my orthodontist, he gave me those to have, he said it will help keep your teeth corrected and help stop the biting, well i ate through it, and he gave me tougher ones, didnt work, but thanks for the idea. I swear i've been through every chew thing out there hahaha.

I'm a biter too, but not seriously enough that Kevin-John has bruises (yet).

Is there any type of wood that you could safely chew on without cutting your mouth or tongue or swallowing splinters?

Perhaps you could buy leather as a raw material, have 5-6 layers of it stitched into a cylindrical shape, and build a very durable chew 'toy' out of it?

I don't know if it has dangerous chemicals or not, but how about one of those items that people use to rest their wrists on when they work at their computer, that have a soft, deformable inside? Something of this sort covered in 3-4 layers of leather might work.

Has anyone ever measured the amount of force you bite with and the surface area of the bite? Someone might be able to design you and others with your condition something very durable yet soft to chew on if they knew these numbers!

And I don't wish you to take offense, but:

My dentist has a file on me that says "beware of biting" yes weird aint it?

That's not so much weird as it is rather comical in it's own way, if it weren't such a problem!

I hope you find a solution to it. I can't imagine how horrible that has to be. :(

Yea, yea know i do gnaw on my walls, so hmm maybe getting a piece of wood might help except splinters in the mouth are the worse!

Dont worry i never take offense, im glad u found it funny, the dentists assistants think its funny as well, heck i laugh at it time to time hehe. Thanks for the advice by the way, it does suck, sometimes i wish i didnt have teeth it gets so bad!

Hmm... maybe a flexible plastic tube filled with a moldable putty inside with the plastic being fully bendable and 'stretchy' and the plastic tube itself covered with two or three layers of a kevlar-leather stitching might work...

Kevlar is poor at standing up to abrasion but good at accepting cuts, while leather is good at withstanding abrasion...

You need something very heavy duty!

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Have you tried the type of bite guard that dentists prescribe for people who grind their teeth at night?
They make talking more difficult, but put a blunt cover over your teeth so they aren't so sharp.
