My sensitivity generally depends on how tired/stressed I am. On a late evening in the library I start to hear everyone's conversations from all 4 floors, whilst they're all close approximations of whispering adding it all up becomes quite loud/frustrating. I'd get some noise-cancelling headphones but I think they work best for steady noises (engine hum) rather than conversations, too expensive to just pick up a pair to find out.

While certain sounds have bothered me for years, it is only recently that I have discovered the connection with AS. A few days ago I was in a sandwich shop and a noise started that I could not withstand. My wife was talking to an acquaintance and was disturbed that I had to leave the place. Outside we discussed it, and she had not heard anything out of the ordinary. That is when I was convinced I had to investigate the situation in more depth. I love music, but sometimes I hear a non-tonal (for want of a better word) noise on top of a musical instrument or voice sound. I used to think that AS was a personality problem, but I find the sound and visual distractions problems to be just as worrisome. I am new to this forum
