Well you can't call the local paper. They went out of business because everybody was on the net.
The nice part about this unreal net is, it cut down the junk mail in may post office box.

I see an LL Bean ad up above this page. I do miss their catalog in the mail. I liked them better when they were a little known outfitter in Maine. Oh well I guess you can't live in the past. I do wonder what will replace the net. Whatever it is, it won't be real either.

I think the Internet is real because if it wasn't, I would be dead. I can't live without the Internet. I spend 24 hours a day on it.

It seems trolls have a short life now, compared to a year ago.

With my customers, suppliers, and shippers on line, and the people in my neighborhood looking for witches to burn, terrorist hiding in garbage cans, Home Land Security Warning # 2307, most phone calls from machines, and the sight and smell of humans, I will stay indoors and on the Internet.

The greatest thing about it is it is Aspie, the pause between messages. In person, on the phone, to much at once. An email a day keeps a conversation going, and with a day to consider an answer, an effective means.

Faster, 24/7, slower, adjustable response, this is a lot better than real life. I lived there, you can have it if you want it.

I do think the Internet should hire a decorator. It has all the excitement of an old phone book.

This is old media pumped through a new means.

If you were talking to me in person, I would most likely be drawing diagrams. This words only stuff is so limiting.

So you're not real? Excellent, I all ready have problems remembering that people think and feel and apparently actually live. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that anymore.

Ok so I have read most of this and know it is an old post however.... I wanted to make a comment and see... My son is on the computer all the time. I have found it is a wonderful tool to get over the first bumps of a new friend. I LOVE SKYPE for this reason. I see my son talking to other kids thru skype and playing games at the same time. They share what they know and love. They can share the screen and SOMETIMES they even see each others face. lol It has helped bridge the communication gap for him. He has now transistioned (mp) to seeing them in person. He goes to social thearpy but Skype, Facebook, have helped his classmates see more of him than he could show before because of the anxiety. Even has a girlfriend now :D

The net is real; I use it every day for work, at work. In a non-networked world, I’d never have a chance to meet people who share my interests, people from all over the world. I would have never had the chance, once a year, to actually spend a couple of weeks with hundreds of those people, all freely sharing the skills and trick of the trade, and after a long day sit round a camp fire and talk about the life that we all share. Like minded people all with a common interest and skills to share, ancient skills, that the indigenous people from north of the arctic-circle Africa, USA, SA, Borneo and beyond.
OK so I’m lucky as most of the people, who post on my regular boards, are just the same in real life and I get to know them. The trolls and the liars are found, exposed and roundly mocked. They get quickly bored of being “outed” on the couple of dozen forums on the net that cover my hobby/special interest.
So on the net as real, people I see in real life are the same as PM and “talk to on line”.
If that is not real then let’s give up the telephone, or Skype, or any kind of VOIP.
That is not to say that there are not sad lonely trolls who enjoy generating hate or flame wars, or like to pretend that they are more interesting than they really are. See OP

Oh snap according to you everyone who uses the internet must of taken the 'blue pill'. /Matrix reference
Apparently you're unaware that the internet is just another form of communication. Just look at e-mail and social networking websites. FYI people actually do meet up IRL with other people from the internet. :B

It seems you are ignorant about the sensory problems and speech issues a lot of people on the spectrum face. I for example have difficulty expressing myself verbally. However, writing with a computer I am able to communicate with people more effectively. It's my voice!

I have a really hard time socializing and making friends in real life and I don't get out much to socialize much in real life. So that's why I'm on the internet so much. Plus the internet is a lot easier for me to socialize with my Asperger's Syndrome then outside the internet.

The internet has improved my social skills. I learned more about the world out there and how people think and what offends them. It even improves TOM because you learn what people think and how they think.

And this is a three year old thread everyone. But unfortunately most people read the first page first and then reply than reading all the pages first so it's very unlikely they will see this post first before hitting the reply button.

Interesting topic. I agree with it in some ways. But I think in the coming future, life will be increasingly lived online. There will be holographic images of ourselves that we will be able to send over the internet.

Yes I do use the Internet to escape my life. But my life sucks. Largely due to the amount of time I've spent on the internet. It's a viscous cycle.

The internet in its current state is virtual reality version 0.2, and virtual reality version 1.0 has yet to be released.

Not necessarily. You may be over-reacting.
