Here is an interesting take on it.

I dont particularly care if someone lies to ME.

I can lie, but it is difficult. I prefer to be honest.

I can both lie and BS very easily, and it has honestly saved my ass multiple times. I make a point though to only do it if the situation warrants it, such as if I get asked to come into work or whatever.

I am honest with most people, sometimes being brutally honest about things. I refuse to do the so called *little white lies* to protect the emotions of others.

so yeah, i am a bit odd when it comes to it.

- was diagnosed with AS like 6-8 years back, i forget.

Its not true. Aspies can lie with the best of them. The problem is that aspies don't lie when they should.

For example, I once had a gf that came out and said "How do you like my new dress? Do you think it makes me look beautiful?" To that I replied; "The dress is fine but you are still ugly." For some reason she never wanted to see me again after that.

The proper social response would have been to lie; "You look absolutely stunning tonight." I think you are supposed to cross your fingers when you say that though.

Anyone who has not disclosed their AS has lied, if only by omission.

I learned to lie to stay out of trouble too. I had abusive parents so I guess you could call it a survival skill. It took me a lot longer to learn how to lie than other kids my age.

I don't think there's much truth to the stereotype that Aspies don't lie. I do think that we have a harder time hiding our lies due to lack of social skills.

yeah, the stereotype is annoying.

funny how if i lie, people believe me, if i am honest, people dont believe me. Its just wierd how things are sometimes.

I can lie quite easily. People often say they can't tell if I'm telling the truth or not. I make it a point to not lie, unless I'm joking with someone ....

Same here, previously diagnosed AS. I'm waiting to see a new pdoc (have been inbetween for a while) for comorbid issues that require drugs.

Considering how much it bothers me when I'm lied to, why would I lie to other people except to avoid negative consequences than I don't deserve?
Several months ago a kid in my class asked me if I was autistic, and I said "no" and added that it was a very rude question. He had asked me in front of the entire class, but not loudly and he hadn't gotten anyone's attention first (except mine, of course). But I knew that people sitting close to me would hear me and I knew that if I said "yes", this kid would tell everybody. Then everybody would think that I'm just making excuses or they'd treat me like I'm a ret*d. Some of them already do, but the number would multiply if I said I was "autistic". If I say I have Asperger's Syndrome, the reaction won't be nearly as bad. But I don't plan to say that either...

I can lie, but I don't do it unless it is really necessary.

Arguably I do exxagerate things or BS sometimes-but I try to mention it's an incomplete translation and not exact. When I'm not blatantly trolling. And I do not blstantly lie. I might *forget* to add things in or not say I'm sure or something, but rarely do I blatantly lie.

I HATE when people BS and exxagerate s**t and say I did a bunch of s**t when I didn't-had to deal with my mom doing that..

That statement itself is a lie. True, aspies can find it harder to lie, and tend to be honest by nature.

I find small lies much harder to tell than big ones. Odd huh?

I think I told some wild stories when I was a kid to try to get the other kids to like me....of course I learned very quickly that this did not work and actually hurt me more.
I am very honest and it even hurts me to tell white lies....even though I know that it would hurt another person if I told the truth I still feel badly for lying. Sometimes I just automatically tell the truth which makes me appear insensitive or cruel. I can manage to withold the truth at times but If Im asked outright I will tell the truth.
