Would you live in a commune designed for autistic people?

I think it would be good. But there would have to be plenty of places for people to be alone if they wanted to, as well as non-noisy meet environments for those who want to socialise but not get confused with background noise.

And it would be good if everyone had their own rooms with noiseproof walls. Space and quiet would need to be a priority.

Yeah, that's a great idea. There can be sensory rooms with lights or poster or games or music that we can retreat to with others that we have a kinship with. I like black lights and artwork that accentuates it. Maybe, A William Blake room, that's where I'll be when I'm not shooting billiards.

I would choose no. Not that it's a bad Idea, but for me interaction with NTs helps me make progress with aspergers issues. I feel it would be a backwards step for me. I would like to visit though, maybe stay a bit?

I think an autistic retreat would be nice. One which aspies/auties can stay at for, say, a few days to a few months at a time. A resort with lots of stuff to do.
I'll say another No to an aspie commune. Everytime someone mentions an island or some commune etc, I can't help but think of Lord of The Flies :?
Also, I fear the surrounding communities (towns & cities) will treat the commune like some sort of leper colony. Further alienation from society is NOT what will help us.

I'd like to have another Aspie as a roommate, but I wouldn't like to live in the Autistic Ghetto. As fas as I understand NTs, they'd make something specially designed for mentally ret*d people. I don't feel disabled and I have a right to live with all the people in the world.

No. But then my ideal life is that of a hermit. When I was as young as three my mother said she wouldn't be surprized if I grew up to be a hermit and I guess she is right. I do not need human interaction whatsoever and I get sick and stressed if I have to edure it for long periods of time.

Yes. An ideal commune. Yet I prefer a commune with all the neuroatypicals with no neurotypicals in the authoritative positions trying to patronize us. It should be designed.

'It isn't,' said the Caterpillar.
'Well, perhaps you haven't found it so yet,' said Alice; 'but when you have to turn into a chrysalis —you will some day, you know — and then after that into a butterfly, I should think you'll feel it a little queer, won't you?'
'Not a bit,' said the Caterpillar.
'Well, perhaps your feelings may be different,' said Alice; 'all I know is, it would feel very queer to me.'
'You!' said the Caterpillar contemptuously. 'Who are you?'

If by some miracle I get rich I'm going to buy a mansion and invite a whole bunch of autistic people to live there free, while indulging them in their any and every special interest.

Does that count as a commune?

I love this idea. A city full of aspies would be so perfect.

Honestly no! It wouldn’t be a good idea. A group of Autistic people hanging around for a short period of time as friends can work and I know from experience. But I think a commune not a good idea at all. I can imagine a few meltdowns happening.

Possibly yes. My only friends are autistic, or at least show traits. "Normal" people scare and bore me. The only people who "get" me are other autistic people.

I would like to live in a commune of nice, interesting and considerate people, I would not care about their specific neurology.

I would love to live very close to a commune designed for Autistic people. I think I would want to be a bit secluded but I would want to be in close enough proximity that I would be able to be a part of the commune and enjoy taking part without living directly in in it.
