Of course they can cry. I do, sometimes, though I don't often. I still feel sad though, at certain films or books etc.

Maybe it’s coincidence but I have noticed that people who have trouble crying usually have very fair skin. I think it's genetic. It has nothing to do with what or how they feel.

I have white skin and I probably cry more than most. I do think you have to suffer to have any experience with crying and perhaps some white people may be spared in this case. It's a gross generalization any way you look at it though.

Sartrasue, Hold-on, you're gonna make it through.

Rather often, but rarely around many others... generally around specific dates, certain cinematic moments, and breakdowns/meltdown.

I am confused

I am sometimes confused too, but trust me, I cry alot and I know that I have empathy.

I once read that it isn't that Aspies/Auties don't have empathy, it's that we have so much that we just don't know what to do with it.

I dunno, I think that helped me to understand. Hope you find something that helps you as well ^^

"Crying" and eyes watering are different things.

Yes, I cry sometimes, but still often come across as lacking empathy. I don't think the problem is us not having feelings/emotions (we do), it's us not understanding other people's feelings and not taking part in their feelings. I can get excited, I may just not get excited about the same things other people do. I can cry, I just don't cry at the exact same things as others.

I can cry but things that upset people around me don't upset me. I only cry because I'm depressed.

Yeah...I cry a lot over lots and lots of things. A lot of the crying stems from a shedload of misunderstanding and not knowing why people are a certain way, taking things the wrong way, people taking me the wrong way, getting excluded, etc, etc, etc. As empathy goes its sorta different yet sorta related. Perhaps aspies dont cry over other people as much.

I am an emotional person, but I am not good at expressing my feelings.

Years ago I almost cried every day because of the depression.

The empathy question is one of confusion. This is what I have decided. Empathy is something I have too much of in some instances, not enough of in others. It is really difficult for me to have universal empathy which doesn't mean I am evil and don't care about the sufferings of others. It just means if person "A" is what I think of as a "perfect" person (yes, I realize no one has a perfect life) it's hard for me to empathize with them. I think they have it easy while I have it rough and get into "self pity" mode.
If it's somebody who I can identify with, share a common bond with I feel too much empathy, I think and go into this "codependent" type mode wishing I could protect them, help them out, etc. Depends on who it is and what I know about them.

Don't believe the stuff they tell you. Autism varies, so any sort of symptom list can't be trusted. If you feel empathy, then you feel empathy.

me too! i only really cry when i go through depression but not at anything else. i do get the lump in the throat when i'm thinking of something or watching a moving movie or programme. i never cry at pain such as needles being stuck in me or when i accidently hurt myself. i know the pain will pass & i suppose thats a good outlook on things.
