Why a McDonald's cashier? I'm a cashier at a waterpark resort, and that register can get just as complicated...I'm also one of their top guys apparently.

I disagree with judge as the worst career choice. Sure, Aspies can be gulliable, but they are also logical and literal. That's essential for a judge. An aspie judge, IMO, can be the ultimate neutral applicator of the law, deciding all cases solely within the letter of the law. Furthermore, an Aspie judge would be so knowledgeable that he'd have a great idea which party's case has greater legal merit.

Of course, the whole politics thing wouldn't work for most Aspies. But maybe they can succeed as magistrates in certain jurisdictions.

I agree....I too think Autistic folks would be some of the best judges; we wouldn't be swayed by personal biases, and emotions.

I still say politics is a massive steaming load though...

An excellent job for an aspie would be working at Alberta Land Titles.....Being literal and rigid IS A JOB REQUIREMENT there.

What exactly are your duties? Do you have to interact with customers much?

1.) A police officer- Aspies tend to be very gullible and they lack the traits needed to be a sucessful cop. THey do not have the ability to detect deception or detect any suspicious behavior.
2.) A judge- It is their gullible trait that makes a Judge the worst possible career for Aspies. They lack the abily to detect deception and put all the pieces together.
3.) Football player- Aspies lack the physical coordination. They can't pass a football, or run very fast. They can also be too clumsy.
4.) Teacher- All though they have above average intelligents, they would make great teachers. This career requires an extremely high level of social competence, which they do not have. Aspies in general become too involved in their subjects and will go on and on about it. Their pedantic behavior will bore their students. The students will also be annoyed by their perfectionism and high expectations

According to research, these are the worst jobs for any Aspie. As you all may know, the best jobs for Aspies remains the same. Computer programmers, mathmeticians, lawyers, travel agents, bus drivers, scientists, sociologists. But these are the careers that people suffering from Asperger's must avoid.

Um, this is from an article I read. I forgot the link sorry.

I was quite decent in football i was able to pass the ball and was a useful goalkeeper but every person on the spectrum is different.

I'd say one of the worst jobs would be to be a salesperson. Your social skills have to be perfect and you have to pick up on every social cue in order to pick up on a customer's interest in the product and you have to talk a lot too.

Protests...lies...it's all in the eye of the beholder! ;)

The worst job I could get would either be a teacher (I pupil would end up injured) or a grief counsellor, "Get over it" and then sit awkwardly for a while...

Jobs I would like:
Hardware designer/Computer programmer (something with computers at least)
Surgeon, Doctor or Pathologist
Problems with the doctor "Mr smith you have Cancer"
"Oh my god.... what am I going to do"
"Well I suggest surgery very soon"
"Oh yes.... I will......"
" Yeah, um.... erm.... well I have other patients to see"

Being a politician is all about selling yourself out, telling people what they want to hear, and selling a fantasy.

I don't think any of us could do this--at least, not effectively--nor would I honestly recommend it.

cashier (one place I worked in the 90s was great, fairly quiet/regular customers/could smoke and eat anytime right in the store, then the smoking ban and a new owner w/lots of changes made it way too stressful for me)

waitress (couldn't figure out why others got better tips than me when they screwed up orders and wasted time bsing with the customers...)

customer service (complaining people who are allowed to return things even though the policy says they aren't - wtf?)

daycare (too damn noisy, absolute idiots for coworkers, rules are not followed, and the parents are a huge problem)

(basically all the jobs I have tried to have b/c I didn't know I really wasn't normal)

I disagree with that. Some aspies are bound to learn how to use their logic to get over any supposed predispotion to gullibilty. It depends on how self-aware the individual is. Heck, I've heard some people claim aspies to be analytical- so that would be a good trait for such a career.
I see what you're saying when it comes to logical fallacy, but one also has to know the social significance of what is being said and take it into that context. Another thing is that analysis is a slow process which requires attention to detail. The problem with paying too much attention to detail is that in a situation like socializing where you have to react more impulsively, you take in too much and overstimulate yourself. You're not supposed to take too much in. So that means whatever logical fallacies you know of have to be ingrained enough so that you don't fumble over them in that type of situation.

Ok, that was kind of a long post lol. My basic point is that logical fallacies have to be pretty much second nature to be of any use in a social situation.

I disagree with this thread. There is no worst career for an aspie. If someone on the spectrum wanted to do any of these things they would put their mind to it and do it no matter what the odds. If they wanted to be a police officer they would probably work harder at learning all the things you said they couldn't do and maybe even become better at it than an average NT. This is true for any profession. I think it's our obsessive tendancies that are our strengths when it comes to careers. If we really want something, we'll do it no matter what.

I know plenty of autistic professors. My boyfriend would probably make a great professor, though he'd much rather go into pharmaceutical drug design.
And I've heard many times that a common career choice for AS women is special education teacher.
I think this list is just based off of stereotypes...
