Thanks, I've noticed that. Believe me, the topic somehow came out the wrong way, I'm no better than others. I just got so fixed on the poll questions, that I somehow twisted my own mind and made a mess of it all.

No need to explain, I wasn't judging you, at all. My response was only an interpretation of myself, and my ideas, and was directed at no one in particular. :)

Ok, but I have a feeling that this thread, that I'm not exactly proud of, will last for a long, long time. I think it's called Murphy's law.

Don't worry about it. In a couple days, it will be forgotten history. Plus, I think everyone will recognize you've admitted that you meant no harm in it. If someone chooses to hold a grudge, too bad, that's their problem.

What supremacy?

one thing I've found out, is that if it's a good subject, you'll see another one on the same topic come by sooner or later. They're like buses...;)

I used to think that someone was deleting my posts in certain topics, until I finally wigged onto the fact that identical subjects were coming up within days of each other.

Joining a club that would have ME as a member!! topic

I think there are chattier members here. I am not one of them. I prefer to analyze, classify, and study a post. I find most posts interesting, though I do not comment on each post or thread. I think carefully about what I contribute--this is why I preface each of my replies with a topic headline, to crystallize the topic itself and/or specific posts I am replying to.

Some replies/topics/posts/threads are more open ended and these seem to get more interest/comments, as there may be more meat on the bone to gnaw.

I would exclude no one from WP unless there were infractions that came to the attention of the mods/Alex (developer).

I sell on ebay. I can list a rare item, get two watchers and no bids. Everyone passed on a very low opening bid.

Two weeks later I run the same item, same relisted ad, get 30 watchers and six bids.

Sometimes the fish are biting, sometimes not.

The Internet is unfair, I want Al Gore to fix it!

When I am on here, I usually reply to the ones that i feel I need to add something. I read many more than i reply to. There are days that I just can't get the words out on the keyboard to say what I want, when I want to, so I am unable to post anything much. You will notice those days when I am like that, because I will reply to a very few, and my answers are usualy quite brief.

I know what you’re saying. I don’t think anyone tries to be exclusive on purpose but I do get annoyed at how the topics that really pique my interest seem to always end up on the second page so fast. The really common topics that keep coming up over and over again are always at the top. It's no doubt irritating but nothing deliberate is going on IMO. There’s such a large influx of new people starting new topics all the time that you have to get really lucky to have a topic stay afloat for more than a day.

Also, sometimes when I don't reply it's because I just don't have the time. It can take me up to 20 minutes to write up a well thought out response to a post. If I'm not going to have that kind of time I just read. Maybe I should reply with simple one-liners just to let people know that I've read their thread, but then I feel like I'm just spamming and not contributing anything of importance. You can't win really.

^Yeah, it takes me a long time to write a "thought out" response too. That's why you will find that many of my responses are short and to the point. Sometimes I don't have time, and sometimes I just get lazy. Like now.

I think I recently discovered, that a handfull of ppl get all the attention on WP. One can rise topics as intelligent or interesting as it can be, but you get no attenion, cause you're new. I think I realised that just when I posted a topic that really would concern ppl on the specter and got really little response. So, I decided to have a poll, just including the veterans.

I have noticed that a few people on here do get more attention/mentions (I guess these would be the "veterans" you refer to), but I haven't noticed it haven't any effect on responses to topics, which seem to be random.

I think a lot would depend on the time you posted, and the cohort online during the time you posted.

I mostly look at the new thread thing on the right side, it doesn't even tell me who started the thread... so it all depends on when things are posted and when I look.

Look at the number of views each thread has, last I looked no thread had under 50 views and it was only about 20 minutes old. If people don't have anything to say on the topic many times they don't respond but still they had at least 50 people look at it.

No offense intended but your post and topic reminds me of a whiny 8 year old who wants their way. If you feel like not responding to someone's post in particular, feel free to not do so. On the other hand I don't believe making a coup will be beneficial.

I don't mean anybody broke the rule, but I have noticed that some really interesting topics goin down the drain, while other stupid topics get heaps of responses, undeseved.

Its easier to reply to a stupid topic than an interesting topic - nothing really to do with poster personalities really.

I wish I could be more that way, one liners. I think mosez would agree that I need to be more that way.

I tend to monologue, and then I attempt to edit down and that takes me a long time to do. Sometimes, I write a post and delete the whole thing and forget about it. But I keep trying to come up with one liner responses as a training type thing to deal with the real world, but sometimes I monologue just because I need to once in a while at least.

Either way, I seem to respond to topics I find interesting, and half the time, I don't pay attention to who writes the topic until I click on it and see their picture and info in it. I do tend to recognize people that post frequently in what I do read, and sometimes I will read their post only because they wrote it, otherwise I skim through the posts. On the list of threads, I skim through that too, and I'm sure many topics I'd find interesting slip. Because I take forever to respond, it really depends on my mood and the time I got on here on whether I respond to something or not.

Well, that does happen. Lots of different people log on in their time zones, and they see something interesting, like when you told me you thought that Oregon would be a nice place to see and I wanted to gush all over you about how wonderful and beautiful it is here, and how you would be so welcome by the people here, because we respect and admire rugged individualist here! ;)

but then there is the laundry, or making dinner, or going or being at work all day that make me forget the interesting topic I read just the other day and where was that thread, and it has already been five page later that I have to read until I see that the topic has nothing to do with what it started out, just that morning, so I just let it go. . .

Threads rise and fall by who has what time to be on them. They self select, too. After a while you will see WP is it's own entity, that has a life of it's own.

no amount of moderation is going to change that.

Merle

I guess I don't do the one-liners because it's boring to me. Maybe the person on the other end will appreciate them but it's not like a real one-on-one conversation where you get to go back and forth. Maybe I'm just selfish that way. I want attention mostly. I admit it. I want to be able to think that people are just dying to hear whatever I have to say on here because I'm so damn shy in real life.

In real life it’s damn hard to balance saying what other people want to hear and listening to them without getting bored. I have some great conversations when I’m with someone where we both find each other fascinating but unfortunately that’s rare. Online I can find the interesting topics but the back-and-forth communication element is missing and it leaves me feeling a little neglected. Maybe we all feel this way.

It also happens to me that I start to write my response and then something comes up and I have to go do something else. I save the thing I was writing on the word processor but then when I come back I can't get back into the mood to finish what I was trying to say. Then I just forget the whole thing. It's like I missed my chance.

I want to "destroy" NocternalQuilter but it's for entirely different reasons.
