Greentea, that shot of the red beetle on the blue flower is excellent! I'd have been very pleased to have got that! What you won't have seen are the hundreds of blurry, badly exposed and wonkly framed pics that I've taken in my time. I've got barrow loads of those. And no, I'm not going to post any.

I've been browsing a few photo forums and some of the people who post there are professional level. Talk about perfect, there is stuff out there that is National Geographic beautiful. Don't give up though, if you love photography, it is definitely one of those things which improves with practice.

I have just made the digital plunge and ordered my Canon EOS 50D. Autofocus (never had it before) is going to make such a difference to my pics! I am buzzing at the prospect.

I've been taking pictures since I was about 10 years old. Right now I'm the Official Photographer of the Village of Wellington. I take pictures of all their special events. The last event I did was the Father/Daughter dance.

Thank you for the encouragement to keep trying, AC! And wishing you lots of fun and success with the new camera! :)

I got my SLR camera to photograph a meteor shower, but got obsessed by photography itself.

I did a course at the local college, which was ok, but the week we had to photograph a model was horrible horrible horrible - having to strike up a rapport with a total stranger in front of twenty other people... I mumbled and sweated and took some really crap photos. People are not my thing, even if I have a camera to hide behind

I stick to landscapes and flowers, birds and insects now, with the odd bit of astronomy thrown in. I'm thinking of going digital soon, Canon EOS 50D is favourite so far.

I know how you feel. I stick to skateboarding, dogs, and kids. It is easy for me to interact with them. I have had several offers to shoot some models but frankly I am scared on how to direct them.

Hey Guys,

Several things have kept me from coming back here as much as I want to

1 My daughters getting married in 4 weeks EEK !

2 New job - gotta earn those bucks ! Also started writing for the Net,we will see how that goes.
If you want to look I'm at ImageWeb Page Name SquidooWeb Page Name Moms scared to surf naked (How I became a geek )
First time I EVER wrote anything...and I want to write about A.S,too, but need to learn more, let it all "settle" a
bit,first..KNOW you guys will set me right if I mess up,LOL.

3 The Flu....

I read thro' all the posts and was awed at the talent here - gonna visit everyone's site who posted a link.

Thanks for welcoming me and sharing,I do feel right @ home...that's what this pic is about.
It comes with a story-

My beloved "cheese",the ginger tom,brought a tiny female kitten home,last week,washed her,curled up.

My family all think its funny,as I do some kitten rescue, from drains, etc, and he just copied me.

Photography is part of my job, so I can't really get away from that world, even if I wanted to...! Unfortunately the kind of shots I have to take for work would not really be the kind of thing to put up on here...
Also, I always get issued with different kit (I use Canon, I get issued with Nikon and can never find all the buttons!), and the kit isn't so robust nowadays... much easier to break than what I was taught on!!
The shots I take for fun are usually in B&W, and rarely involve people (don't know why...), but I love just wandering around with the camera and being left to do as I please.
Some of the interest was a result of trying to explain to people that I don't seem to see the world like they do, then trying to show them what I see... sometimes it even works....
Great to see shots from everyone, so many are absolutely fascinating.

I take photos (a.k.a. my icons) but I would hesitate to call myself a photographer. I don't think I actually spend enough time on it to merit that title. And I hate the technical side of it; I love the purely artistic side (the arrangement, the ideas, the capturing of the image and moment), but I spend zero time on any technical editing or camera settings or that sort of thing.

Call yourself a photographic artist then, I have only seen your avatars, but they are beautiful, and given a place to see them online, I would love to see more of your work.

Unfortunately I'd have to conquer my profound disinterest with technology first, in order to take the time to set up a website.

Try Flickr, I had mine set up in like 5 minutes...

If I try to get good pics, they turn out crap. But if I am just always ready for a good snap, then I do OK... unfortunately it's just too random to capitalize on.

My favourite shot:

I just love the way the bird looks, too bad it had to ruin my photo of the hippo... Unexpected things make for interesting photos.

I take pix just to try to show others how I see the world. I post pix on my MySpace and FaceBook pages and I scrapbook for the rest. I also love to turn some of my photos into cross stitches. I love to drag my camera everywhere and take pictures everywhere. Sometimes they are good and sometimes I trash them. That's what is so great about digital cameras. Delete retake delete crop zoom retouch redeye. Basically eliminates all the flaws! Love it!

I think that we have very unique perspectives as artists and I think that we should find the forums that will provide outlets for us. I just do it for me. I'm good at it and I enjoy it.
