I'm not sure on childhood but as an adult I DESPISED the inbetween your toe ones and liked the regular feet kind. I tried a pair of toe ones and they've grown on me. Like jewelry if feels you still have them on after taking them off THEY ARE AWESOME! AND FEEL GREAT ON MY FEET!! ! :-)

Did anyone else here with AS not wear flip-flops growing up? My best friend wore them all the time, but I never could stand the feeling of something between my toes like that. I didn't wear my last pair until last year, I made myself wear them and after a few weeks they finally began to grow on me. And then my Pit Bull chewed them up, so that was the end of them. But all my life I avoided them for the same reason I avoided tags on clothing, seams on socks, etc. I just never knew until last year why this was, and I at least feel better at least knowing why.

I never much wore them except around the house for just walking outside and back in short order. I never could fathom the people that wore them out to town and such. I simply don't feel I can walk comfortably in them. But then again, I don't feel I walk very comfortably in sneakers either. Doesn't hurt that flip flops were related to an incident when I slashed my right foot open nearly 4 inches from top of heel toward the toes.

I am very particular to what socks I'll wear. I generally cannot stand the cheap sport socks. I really like the Adidas sport socks though. Socks and flip flops are a hideous, and too often seen, combo.

I imagine most Aspies are no fan for "toe socks" either? Just thinking about them make me feel uncomfortable. :D

I mostly wear an ancient pair of Maddens. I will cry when they die. The version of that style is made of materials I can;t warm up to.
These were tire rubber bottom sole with a mold to your foot cork sole and leather clog style upper. I Have some fancy flip flops (which were called thongs in SoCAL 70s) but they are hard to walk in often. If I hurry I will blow a tire and have to go back to lost sandal.

Before I became a broke mofo I wore custom shoes made in Brazil, Capezios, Scholl's, Cork clogs, Vans custom made in Burbank and Doc Martins. I hate wearing shoes. I hate socks unless they are plush and fluffy. Cheap hose...Arrrgh!
I am picky on location of seams and fabric mix and texture and tag location/material ( silk tags are okak, satin too).
Footie pajamas used to freak me out. I love full length but not the added foot sock thingy

I've heard stories of people needing shoes, during an emergency, and about shoes that could walk hundreds of miles. I saved up for these with several pairs of lifetime guarantee wool socks, which leave my feet hot but totally dry. I wear them in dress situations, but will normally go totally barefoot so as to avoid heat exhaustion.

I like the sandals with simple features, which are handmade. I have climbed literal mountains in ones made of a single layer of camel leather. I would rather have to scrounge for these, or shop through backchannnels, than pay obscene prices for a pair thongs, which are popular, here. Bare feet, without that little strap of leather, will get you strange looks, when in public.

Being barefoot is like working without gloves. You build up a tolerance, which can outlast shoes / gloves. But, you will end up maintaining your feet as though you were taking care of a pair of shoes.

No sandals or flip-flops here, just one pair of boots outdoors and moccasin slippers indoors. I don't like seeing people's bare feet, not a problem unless they're seated and putting their feet up where I can't avoid seeing them. I think it's because my feet are very sensitive and I project my feelings onto the barefooted one, I think they need protecting somehow. I did wear flip-flops as a child when on holiday, didn't mind them because it seemed like a snazzy new thing to do, the people I was staying with wore them and I liked those people so I wanted to do all the things they did that I didn't. But these days I'm more conservative, and my feet get cold easily in the UK, wouldn't be practical at all. And I have a tendency to get fallen arches, so I need the arch support, don't know if flip-flops would help that or make it worse. If I remember right you have to use your toe muscles to hold them on.

I hate flip flops. I can't stand how they feel and they are very awkward to walk in and I can't stand to go bare foot in sandals. I just wear socks in them.

I couldn't wear them when I was younger because of the thong bit bit I really do like them so I got a pair a couple of years ago and I go wear them occasionally.

This is one of those things that were way worse for me as a child, but I later came to tolerate as I grew up and grew older. As a child I could not tolerate the thong part between my toes, sensory hell bigtime, but later on I tried again and as an adult I've been able to wear flipflops no problem. I wear them as my house shoes as I can't tolerate being in bare feet even in my own home, so I need something and I don't mind flip flops anymore.

I hate them, can't stand wearing them. Most of the time I wear steel toe work boots.

I don't like flip-flops for two reasons:

A. That plastic bar going between the toes is annoying and irritating.

B. I don't like having my feet exposed to the world. I HAVE to have something covering them at all times, no exceptions!

I can't wear flip-flops personally, especially not for long periods of time. The plastic between the toes really bothers me. I also don't like having my feet uncovered. For this reason (and the fact that I have arthritis in my left foot) I always wear comfortable sneakers :)

I can't stand sandals or flip-flops. I used to wear them when I was little, but then I stopped because I was sick of getting blisters all the time. >.<
