my biology teacher said this:
running water over your hands kills 90% of the germs
rubbing your hands under running water kills about 95% of the germs
using soap kills 99.9% of the germs.
Anti-bacterial soap does not do anything regular soap does not

Actually I had a biology teacher who said that anti-bacterial soap can help create super bacteria that is harder to kill. I don't know if that is true or not.

Bec, I have noticed that a lot of scientists have opposing views on some things. Biology is my least favirote subject and a general iam trying to get out of the way quick. Iam definitely not an expert at it or spelling(still paying attention?), so i can neither confirm nor deny that but i believe what i heard was that both soaps kill 99.9% of bacteria which is the maximum you can kill.

I bathe 6 days a week and wash my Hair 7 days a week. Body Odour bothers me and I really don't like to being able to smell myself. I also brush my teeth regularly, even though I sometimes forget to do so on Sunday Mornings, when I'd rather be drinking Decaf Tea, instead. I also knew somebody who had bad BO, and that motivated me to take care of myself.

I think it could be a teen thing perhaps. I'm 23, and I really am afraid still to shave my legs. Like my mom needs to help me, cuz I think I'll cut myself..or I'll spend forever obsesively making sure I got every single hair. It's like, frusterating. If anyone has an idea on how to help with this, I'm willing to listen.

too much hygiene is bad for you!

i only bath twice a week (although have a quick shower in the summer, if i'm disgustingly hot), wash my (very long) hair once a week. it doesn't need any more. and i rarely use soap on most of me. don't use commercial deodorant, either - i make my own with essential oils and bicarb of soda (bloody sprays, destroying the atmosphere).

i never smell. and as for all that "feminine" hair removal....... YUCK!! ! who on earth wants their armpits to look like a plucked chicken? anyway, the cultrual obsession with bald-bodied women is seriously icky - it's about men wanting women to be hairless ("glaborous", is the word), and women are only hairless when they are pre-pubescent girls. extremely dodgy, don't you think?

Dodgy indeed. that's why I tell guys who think that women who look thin, and or like them to be hairless like..*completely* hairless. They're looking for a little girl, not a woman.

Our society is promoting the fascination with Lolita-ism. Not as much as Japan mind you, but enough to where it's almost considered normal. As in finding a 13 year old girl sexy isn't considered pedophilism on a level.

I'll admit on occasion I'll see a young boy who looks cute, but the jailbait alert will ring loudly in my head and I'll snap out of it. While society says that for men to admire women who look like 10 year olds sexually is okey-dokey by them. Double-standards..*grumble*

You could always choose not to shave your legs. Unless you're on a swim team...

Many times I can't sense body odour because I often have a cold, and my nose filters all smells.

I had problem taking regular baths. This was because I couldn't stand the memory of that I would stand in the cold, and wouldn't be fast enough to dry all water, before I felt the "wind" touching me making my skin freeze.
I dislike in the highest degree to freeze when I go out of the bath, or shower.

I only take baths nowadays because when I'm under the warm water I'm getting warmed up as long as I want (almost), and that is different than taking a shower, because when the warm water hits me, it gets lost in the hole that the bathtub has. (well not if you plug it).

Ok, I am a friend of a child (age 14 male) with Asperger's. My issue is the fact that he will not shower, take a bath, brush his teeth, or shave. Is this a comman condition with teens who have Asperger's (we have heard from other Asperger teens who are going through the same thing)?

I have my own cleanliness issues and this has become too much. Do you have any suggestions on how to motivate him to clean his body? All recommendations will be seriously considered and appreciated.

I don't think its that common for teens with Asperger's not to take care of their hygene. I'm just speaking based on my own cleanliness, however. I always take a bath, clean my hair, brush my teeth, and at my last dentist appointment the dentist told me that I was flossing too much; if I kept flossing that much, I would destroy my gums. I'd think that obsessive compulsive disorder would make aspies tend to take better care, but this may not be the case.

I was told I was brushing my teeth too hard! Of course, I found out about that LATE. My current dentist accused me of having caps on my front teeth because they looked "too good". Personally, I don't believe that, but we had a long talk, and he was SERIOUS! I only have ONE cap and that is WAY in back, and you can't even see it, because a tooth FINALLY succumbed to dentist malpractice. It was one of two that I have waited about 30 years to have a problem.

The ONLY time I had a problem with hygiene was when I REALLY hyper focused on a hard project, etc...

I am also one of the ones that will go forever without a shower if no one is around. But I live truely alone. I do just forget to brush my teeth. I have been trying to do better on this.

I love pools and the ocean, but hate showers/baths.... maybe if I had a jacuzzi tub i'd like it better.

I have a small issue otherwise... I am allergic to the scents in most soaps/shampoos/conditioners/perfumes/deodorants/makeup (yes makeup has scent)

So, I use one type of shampoo/conditioner - pantene..... If I deviate from it, I smell worse coming out of the shower than I did going into the shower.... my skin sweats trying to form an oil base between itself and the pollutant... trust me, you would rather I hadn't showered.

I am still shopping for soaps.... right now I use zest, but I don't like it.....

(I am allergic to the hypo-allergenic clothing detergent)....

As I've said many times. I hate water.
I hate the feel of it.
I hate the way it strips the very warmth from me.
I hate the way it seems to get under my skin.

I WANT to be clean, but I don't like torturing myself for it.

I used to try alternative methods.... like pouring hot wax over my skin and peeling it off, scraping my skin off with a knife.... I even tried dousing myself heavily in deoderant and setting myself on fire (that was way too expensive)...

But none of it was efficient enough.

I wish someone would hurry up and make "Sonic Showers" like they have in Star Trek! >_<;
