natty

ps what kind of stones do you collect ?

All kinds of stones. For example I already have at least 50 different sorts of granite. (Though I have to admit my university has the better collection. The "museum of mineralogy" is absolutely great...) I have some of the more valuable gemstones, too, because people keep giving me those for birthdays or christmas.

I've been collecting since I was 3 and my father helped me. It was one of my earliest obsessions and never left.

Wow, Sopho. You really have a talent for starting threads that get popular, fast. This thread is only 2 days old!

Anywho, yeah, I've had people obsessions. I've even chased people out of my life because I've had poor boundaries and get too... intense I guess. I finally had to learn that the obsession doesn't go away but you CAN change your behaviors. Of course, it works better in person. It basically means respecting that person's space and trying to temper your obsession with them so that it isn't obvious. Being obsessed about usually gets a person feeling uncomfortable no matter what they say. Unless they're a therapist and are trained to be used to it and know how to keep their boundaries firm.

Basically, it just takes self-restraint. And oftentimes, for me at least, the fear of totally chasing the person away really helps to keep me from being overly obvious.

That's the same with me really. I always worry about people finding it weird so I try not to show it. I don't follow them around talking to them all the time or anything. So it doesn't actually affect the other person, just me. I still feel bad about it though. Mainly because I shouldn't have started this thread. There are probably people on here now worrying it's them. :|

Probably so. Not that I'm trying to make it sound negative, I'm always paranoid. Even if it is a negative, I'm not going to admit that. :P

I'm a bit paranoid three. What's funny is when it's someone else (you) I can clearly see that everyone likes you, and you have nothing to worry about. But when it comes to me, I'd have a hard time believing that!

Me too. I know there are some people on here who do seem to like me and who I get on well with. But in general I think most people on here probably find me irritating or annoying. I start too many stupid threads and I'm quite boring. I do have interesting interests though!

Maybe not here, but since I spend a lot of time lurking around forums, I find members that have the same username on two forums, so I find out what their interests are. Sometimes I type a username into google to see what sites come up. Sometimes I will click on people's profiles if something they posted sounds like something I would post. I'm not really the stalker type though.

Actually, if you keep it under control, who can complain? I don't know about others, but I have met some people on here that I'm sure I'd really like.(As friends and people to just be around. I haven't found anyone even unattached that is within my age range that I have communicated with, so it couldn't go farther than that anyway.) I got to know them better and I'm happy that I even know their first name. I may never even meet them, and don't really know enough to meet them, but I am happy to just talk to them here. As for obsessions, I'm obsessed more with WP. 8-( Everytime a person asks me if getting a computer for their child is a good idea, I say GREAT! Just don't have them get addicted to forums, games, bbses, or chatrooms. 8-( OK, so I end up not following my own advice. 8-(

Anyway Sopho,

You seem like a nice woman, and I'm sure nobody here has problems with your obsessions.

Steve
