ah, Alex, it is my belief we act every day. A councilor recently said to me "do you act?" and I said "yes, I am acting right now!" meaning my being able to converse with her in 'NT' , and she leans forward and says "oh! are you in one of the acting troops in the Ashland area ( Oregon Shakespeare Festival town with many 'off Bard Way" acting organizations) and I explained "no, right here, I am acting with you!" I had to explain it to her.

That's what I tell people. Somehow I'm able to bring a room to laughter just by being funny.

I know what you mean, I can bring a room to their knees in laughter simply by thinking I am being serious and sensible. . .!

I am not a girl so such comment doesn't affect me.
I bet that no one wants to look at yours either, since models' asses are stealing all attention from the inferior-looking girls ;)

why do you think that only a girl wants admiration for physical attributes? Surely all the male physique models/sports players/rock stars, etc. show their bodies for the admiration they too receive? Or do you think only women are so shallow? Is that it, LePetitPrince?

and as for your assessment as to what and whom have admired MY attributes your evaluation is woefully misinformed! I could tell you stories. . oh! I HAVE told stories, and right here on WP, too!
you must have missed them, or you could have despairingly/disparagingly commented on them long before this post.

Merle

no, not only women are shallow and I never said that , I myself can be shallow sometimes ,every1 has some shallowness! Now, stay on topic my darling and don't turn it to a sexist drama,ok? Good lady. :-)

And about your stories.... well Miss Merle, honestly I have a lot of things in my head that concern me much more than you and your silly little erotic stories on WP , I fear that I remember none of them. =(

I listened to some interview Heather did for some other website, and she sounded a lot more confident and articulate than she did when she talked to alex. Maybe talking to a fellow aspie made her forget that she had to act.

LePetitPrince, that's how media works. More often than not, they're looking to scoop up and exploit information that they think people will pay to watch/read. ANTM and the Tyra Show, especially, make it a point to exploit people for their differences. Tyra is going to get so, so many brownie points for having Heather on the show, as well as her T-Zone pet project. That doesn't take away the fact that Heather is an awesome model.

And I think I can respect what hard work modeling is. Look at Ambreal. As much as she tried, she really sucked at facial expressions and posing. It does take practice. I really felt bad for the girl.

Anyways, here's a NYTimes article on Heather:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/04/health/04well.html
Even more Aspergers focus.

Wish somebody would ask her something new. I've read/listened to a handful and there's really nothing new to any of them.

Well, I don't want to be so unfair but the media is exploiting her condition and she's saying nothing in public as an attempt to stop that.I know that media will win eventually but at least she should tries but she didn't so far . To be more fair, let's give her more time and see if this exploiting will continue and so her silence about this.

And oh btw, modelling is the most shallow/stupid/disgraceful_for_womankind profession , but that's just my personal opinion.

NAW, modeling has got to be at least the fourth worst. I can think of worse stuff.

I was once in an acting class, and not doing well, and I tried to fall into the part. It was the old type of acting exercise where a person would stop acting, and you had to(totally unscripted with no topic, etc...) continue as if you were the same person and do it in a logical fashion. The coach said I did real well. Oh well, I don't think I would really have fit in ok, even if I COULD play some parts better than most.

BTW Ashton Kucher(sp?) is supposedly hansom, etc... He had a career in modeling. Some have even said he is smart! 8O According to some program I watched. And I thought he was some kook that was hired to play an idiot on "that 70s show". So I guess being a model isn't that hard even for men. Did you know Mila Kunis, the actress that plays the one that thinks she is the prettiest thing on the planet, lied about her age to get onto the series, and they had to teach her on set!?

I wonder at times if this is good publicity or not, awareness of Aspergers is needed and maybe its not such a bad thing to let others know that Aspergers exists, and the people are still real - if not always up to the expectations of the NT's....

Anyway makes a change from hearing about what Asperger person killed who or done something bad in the press - even if the reason they committed a crime was nothing to do with having Aspergers. Do they ever say that NT person done this NO - so I guess exploitation or not, it could be worse..

But wanting to speak/represent us all and doing are too different things, mind you it has all been great publicity for her so far, but long term does she want to be a model, or the model with aspergers. She probably has no choice as so well know as having Aspergers already, it should not have to be like that..

I feel the more people who are already known and continue to speak out will help change the majorities views on Aspergers and help the next generation embrace having, instead of treating like some long term illness.

But its not just about saying I have Aspergers and speaking out, it how and whats said thats important...

When I saw the first or second episode where they interview her, I thought I saw definite awkwardness and aspie traits. I didn't watch every episode but when I watched some of the future ones, I began to feel less and less that she was aspie, or at least, that she was so high functioning that any diagnosis was irrelevent. Her socialization and conversation skills were excellent; she had no problem initiating or carrying conversations. When she was "grilled" by the judges she was always very fluid and spontaneous in her replies. Her eye contact was excellent (even Tyra said so and asked her how this could be), she didn't stim, she had no fabric or touch sensitivities, her voice modulation was fine (and I would say out of all the videos posted here, 90%+ have voice modulation issues, even Alex), she had no odd hand or body gestures. And trust me I was looking, I wanted her to be aspie. How cool would that have been? But I really didn't see it once I saw her in day to day living situations in the house :(. I saw maybe ADHD, or that she was kind of "scattered," but compared to the many documentaries I've seen on AS, the AS people I have known IRL, and the videos here, I didn't see it.

I'm not saying this lightly, you can search all my posts, I have never "accused" anyone of not being aspie or said they weren't aspie enough. Generally I take people at face value, even people I might have doubts about. But the fact that she now wants to be "our" spokesperson is a little alarming. At least I would like to see documentation of her diagnosis, and for her to be reassessed now that she's an adult. I would never take any steps at being a spokesperson for AS without a current diagnosis, and openly offering proof of it.

Her voice modulation isn't any more pronounced than my own and other aspies I've met. I also wouldn't have gotten as lost as she did in China. Does that make me not an aspie?

I don't think it's fair to require someone to show proof of their diagnosis.

I watched a video interview with her somewhere else(youtube I think) and she's either a fake aspie or an aspie that deserves an Oscar.

Oh btw, why she doesn't join WP and post here?
