Optimism and Reality: Goldfish21 Response to me
Then I would disagree with you, unless you also believe that we are able to influence and control our own levels of personal power and thus our own abilities to earn our own gold and make our own rules - then I could get on board with your power hypothesis.
I say this because I used to have no power or money. (And it’s commonly believed that money is power.) Now I have both, relative to what I used to have, anyways. There was no gatekeeper preventing me from earning money - only my own health that made me powerless. (Health is wealth, after all.) I made myself more powerful by making myself healthier, and then I went out and earned my own “gold.”
Point is, it is those with power who decide how things are going to be. They make the policies and set the standards. They're the ones who decide what is right and wrong and positive and negative.

I think it's mainly a matter of perception. There are people who have health power and money. The autonomy and wealth to do anything and go anywhere they want. But they are miserable either due to the way that perceive their life or due to brain chemistry problems leading to depression and such. For the latter being put on an SSRI or equivalent helps. But they also can become dependent upon it. An intensive treatment regimen that must be maintained, can end up being similar to something like the ordeal of needing kidney dialysis to survive. Really cognitive behavioral therapy is what worked best for me.

Unfortunately some valuable posts were pruned in the process. Oh well, such is life.
EzraS: I just want you to know I did not report your posts, have never reported a single post by anyone, and will not do so. I believe in freedom of speech, even if I get momentarily irritated by someone suggesting that what I just told them to be fact, isn't, and suggesting some alternate version of the reality of my life instead. Your skepticism & questioning forces me to explain myself better and contributes more value to the things I debate than most others on this forum combined. You may not believe me, but I don't hate you for it.
Hmm, there are a few small puffy clouds in the sky right now, but I'm feeling pretty optimistic that this afternoon & evening will be another full on beach day - and since I know I only have a couple more weeks left of being a full time beach bum before I can only be a part time beach bum, I'm going to pack a lunch and make my way to one of my happy places, Wreck Beach. Totally on topic, too, as psychologists/psychiatrists now acknowledge the therapeutic benefits of what they now call "Blue Space," on peoples' health & well being. Sunshine (vitamin D!), the sounds of the ocean crashing, birds & other animals doing their thing along the cliffside rainforest, up in the air, and out in the ocean.. it all helps contribute to my general optimism. Have a look at the live sky here, a view from ~the Burrard Street Bridge several miles away around the corner from where I'll be & you can see for yourself some of the "Blue Space," I'm about to go immerse myself in once more: http://www.katkam.ca

I have not reported this thread but a few other threads that ended up being about goldfish. Why? because this is Alex's site and that is the method of dealing with things that has been requested of us.
And it is not about just Ezra. On some of these threads, there are 5 or 6 members criticizing him personally and that gives the appearance of ganging up on him. Being an outlier with opinions, and often rubbing people the wrong way that is Goldfish and that is also a major element of most of our lives, elements of our lives that have led most of us to experience endless bullying and exclusion so why do that to another person because we do not like or agree with them? There are two good options if you find goldfish triggering when you see the name Goldfish on a post move on, or if you feel he is violating the rules report him.
Goldfish's opinions about autism traits being negative, causation and treatment of autism are fair game for criticism. Criticizing his motivations, speculating about his neurology should not have been allowed as they are plainly against site rules and the wrong thing to do in the context of this site but they have been allowed often here. There should not be one set of rules for unpopular members and one set of rules for everybody else.
So I thank you XFileGeek for stepping in.

GF, I've been to the beach a number of times. Dude, it is very relaxing and I do think there is merit to what you say on Blue Space. We're moving to the UAE in a couple of months at Abu Dhabi. It has plenty of beaches.

Why are you moving to the UAE?
Different beaches there for sure.. pics look beautiful, buuut, also different laws of the land - so 100% guaranteed they do Not have a “party beach,” like the one I hangout at.
Still “Blue Space,” though, and therapeutic in that regard.

I have enjoyed the beach but not so much remanent sand and sunburn. I love walking outside on a warm to hot sunny day. That is really a good way to be in my own world. When I was a kid I used to sit in the sun for hours at a time listening to my transistor radio. It sure was relaxing and made me feel better overall. Now I hope I do not get skin cancer.

SO has a job there. And, I would mainly go for the blue space and to swim. I'm not into parties though.

2 out of 3 are good enough reasons to go to the beach.

I tried discussing it without it turning into an argument but then came the "you hate me and think I'm a liar" stuff. Also I thought this was cubedemon's thread since he is the OP. But whatever the case I'm no longer interested.

Sounds like someone needs to go to the beach for a little reality check and a refill on optimism inducing vitamin D.
edit: It's crystal clear that you don't believe what I tell you, and not just about one topic, either. I post something, and you respond with "what I think is really going on is this.." Um, no. You don't get to tell me the way my life is any more than I get to make things up and tell you the way your life is. I certainly don't post anything like "EzraS treatments don't actually work for him, he just thinks they do," or "I don't think EzraS is nonverbal, what I think is really going on here is that he's just shy and refusing to speak," because I accept that what you post here and disclose about your Autism & your life is actually the way things are for you. Now perhaps you can begin to comprehend how absurd it is for you (and others who have done this recently - namely RainbowUnion) to come up with "alternative facts," to how my life really is as if I'm incapable of perceiving & expressing it myself.
I do hope you get to the beach for some Blue Space this Summer. I think it would do you (and anyone) a lot of good. Then perhaps you could be a little more optimistic about others also telling their truth vs. thinking they're lying to the extent that you have to come up with alternate theories of how you think their lives really are. As some quote from some movie goes: "Go West, young man." Like all the way to the Pacific. Take a break on the sand, soak up some Sun, watch the birds fly around, listen to the waves crashing.. think clearer & feel better.
