...You identify all the various different train bits stitched together in the train sequence in the first of the new Dr Who episode

When you smell one of your neighbours smoking even though you have all doors and windows closed (and live in a house, not an apartment building).

Your mobile makes the "text" sound and you wonder who it is. Fleetingly, you think "It's likely just my dog".

You invented characters who came from whatever country you were studying at the time. I have written stories (none published) about characters from Japan, Spain, Greece, Serbia, England, Ukraine and Russia.

When you know all your favourite movies off by heart and still enjoy watching them.

When you watch a YouTube video on how to pronounce the names of Russian tennis players and you are disappointed because they left out your favorite player, Denis Istomin. (Yes, I watched it this morning). They included Denis Shapovalov, but not Istomin.

You get a new cellphone and immediately go to YouTube to begin accessing videos about your special interests. (Cat videos for me! I saw some really cute ones!)

When you freeze frame your DVD of Otto Preminger's "In Harm's Way", starring John Wayne, and Kirk Douglas, to see if the Japanese Battleship Yamato has the right number of 18 inch guns.

Kirk Douglas's character, the recon pilot, describes it incorrectly as having "twelve 18 inch guns", but when I froze the frame of the ship he sees through the fog it is correctly shown as having only three triple turrets of 18 guns.

Go figure.

When you give your honest opinion to someone and you drop yourself right in it realise what you have said and try to dress it up or justify yourself.

When someone asks you for your honest opinion, and you give it without ever pausing to consider that what they really wanted was for you to say something nice (even if it's a lie).

When it's a common occurence that you realize years or decades later what someone was actually trying to say or what they intended, because you remember basically everything that ever happens even when you don't understand.
