I'm sorry...but from my experience... a professional Dx (at least when it comes to ASD and other mental disorders) may be just as likely, if not even more likely, to be a MISDIAGNOSIS as a self-Dx.

Eh nothing really....just a figure of speech.

I just wanted to make a point about self-diagnosis. I really think the self-diagnosed are spot on in alot of cases and there's no reason to summarily dismiss them out of hand. Too many people act the psychologists are omniscient and never make mistakes.

If some of my neuropsych evals are any indication, they barely even LISTEN to what patients are saying much of the time. There are so many misquotes in my neuropsych reports it's not even funny.

Heh.....I only WISH my own evaluations would've been extensive enough to include EEGs, MRI, etc......

I've just received the usual mostly on-paper Weschler tests, MMPI's, Halstead-Reitans, Woodcock-Johnstons, etc.....

Easy to self diagnois if you are an easily manipulated individual who wants nothing more than to label themselves.

Much harder to self diagnois if you sincerely are trying to get to the root cause of a life of questions. Because if you are sincere about it you are going to dig, read, do research, double check, rinse repeat before coming to a conclusion.

In effect the individual who is truly researched probably ends up with more knowledge about the condition and what it entails and how to cope and the continuing research than they would ever get from a professional.

Just like everything else don't lump the self-diagnoised and the profesionally diagnosised into cut and dried classifications because there are always variations and grey areas.

Well I can tell you I could easily be diagnosed as I'm rather familiar with shrinks and the methods they employ. Do I have it? maybe, maybe not. I meet most of the criteria some of time, but I do have the ability to be fairly socially well-adjusted if I put my mind to it. Looking back at childhood I can say this: I ran after my mother with a stick when I was 3, I was always shy, I haven't touched it in over a decade but touching velvet gave me a feeling of "nails on a chalkboard 10x", my mother still insists I liked cold water when I was a kid because I laughed when sprayed by it but it was just a reaction, the dishwasher and a near silent T.V. 2 floors down kept me up at night, and I've always been prone to emotional instability. Am I self-diagnosed? I don't care! I refuse to let it define me. Perhaps others are not so lucky, but there is a bit of self-perpetuating pathology to identifying oneself with a diagnostic criteria.

I swear they must do sudoku during their client's sessions or something, the one I went to sent me the report afterwards and he had misquoted me so many times, I went through and circled all these errors. I was too intimidated by him though to contact him and get him to correct it. They have a sort of aura of power.. no wonder people seem to worship "diagnosis" so much, talk about giving your power away to someone else.

why do you keep talking about "noobs" ?
why do you spell "owning" as "pwning"?
your contributions are hilariously inadequate.
i do not see you as very smart.

my ODD has gotten the better of me and i will delete this post tomorrow when i am sensible.

Noobs: basically means newbie, started off being used in online games.
Pwning: another internet phrase which is basically, owning I guess. Also started off on online games.
