I've been called "Hippy Chick" and "Pocahantis" (in reference to the disney movie potrayal of native americans) because I was the first in my family circle to recycle all the time, never throwing anything out. I was also supporting several animal charities through volunteering. I went a little crazy with it as a teenager, to be honest. Now people at work call me "Pocahantis" again because I'm pushing for better recycling standards at the Mall. The only thing they recycle is styrofoam. What about composting and cardboard and glass and plastic? I'm trying to save the earth and they certainly aren't helping!

Well, here are a few I got;

Boffin: A term used in a derogatory fashion, kind of like 'nerd' but to cover more aspects then just a particular interest.

KP: My bowels loosen when I get nervous, hence the name; Kacky Pants.

I like boffins. I think they are cool. Boffins saved Britain from the Nazis. My boffin hero is Barnes-Wallace who designed the bombs that blew out the Ruhr dams. Then there is Alan Turing whose mathematical work help decode the German Enigma crypts. WW2 was won by brain power as much as it was by military bravery. And of course the Manhattan Project, consisting of (mostly) Jewish boffins which developed the A-bomb that brought the Pacific war to a close without a bloody invasion of Japan.

Hail to the Boffins!

Well, in terms of nicknames? I can recall how when I once worked at a fairly well know life insurance company as, a lonely file-clerk that certain people in the department always called me,"Kazan" after the character from the film,"Cube" whom seemingly repeated certain phrases or such.. Honestly, I did repeat some things but, often in a manner that more or less would help me recall specific ifnormation relating to various items or areas of information.. These days there are no nicknames thrown my way alteast, I have not noticed such so far..

It didn't exactly catch on, but once my friends were all assigning eachother animal nick-names based on whatever animal they most resemble. And they told me I was a chameleon, because my eyes are "always darting around."

I was surprised by that but assumed it must have to do with eye-contact avoidance.

Family called me "miss mouse" because I was quiet and hid in cupboards

Primary School, "staredy cat" (innapropriate eye contact I suppose) and "cloth ears" (yorkshire term, meaning deaf...maybe because i never knew if I was being spoken to and didn't answer)

Secondary school- someone remarked I was "doomed to sit on the edge of a conversation". So "Doomed" stuck for a very long time. And due to the combination of my name, and people finding out why i'd been in hospital, "Louisidal" till I left. But I have reclaimed that because I now am ok with it. And it is one of the more clever ones.

Friends, well "spooky" added to my name. I hoped it was a tribute to me liking the x-files. Apparently not.

People still shorten my real name though, despite me regularly telling them how much I hate it. :evil:

1 Family would call me "the scientist" or my mother would say" my son the scientist".

2 " computer" once
3 " a walking encyclopedia" more than few times.

I was nicknamed Freakshow in high school because I liked to stick pins in the skin on my fingers and wave them around.

My friends used to refer to me (though rather infrequently, so I'm not sure if this counts) as Spock or Ken Jennings. I don't usually get a lot of nicknames because I have such a weird first name :P
