Does anyone just try to fit in with so called normal people.

I've tried to be normal, but failed miserably. I don't even bother pretending nowadays.
I don't try to BE normal (I am not normal and I never will be), but I try not to let my external behavior upset the people around me, most of whom are NTs. I am married to an NT (talk about a Mixed Marriage!) and most of my kids and grandchildren are NT. Since I live (and used to work) in what is primarily an NT world, I saw to it that my external behavior did not cause me undue difficulties. But inside I am still Mr. Aspie and I always will be.
I was somewhat unusual in the Aspie mode. I was always sociable and I liked company, particularly people with an off-beat sense of humor. I have always had a quirky comic aspect about me. I could do stand-up early on and tell very weird jokes. I got the jokes just fine. My NT audience had to work on them a bit before they saw the humor.
I was always in demand when they needed someone who could think sideways, backwards and way out of the proverbial box. That was me. Weird and Wonderful. When I used to tell people that my parents were from another earth-like planet they half believed me. My papa, who I think was half Aspie, thought the idea was very amusing. Klaatu Barada Nicto! Gort! Deklaatu brasko!
