Completely annoying, hence I avoid any place where children may be at all costs.

For like the tenth time, NO. I had to deal with two of them on the bus on the way to work and luckily they didn't make too much noise. It was the older one who did but at least she didn't shriek.

They just make me nervous and give me an overload. I don't like to sit with my ears covered.

I had work experience in a nursery when I was 16, and I had learnt to filter out the noise of them if they cried or shouted, because when you're dealing with them yourself you are more tuned to it and so it doesn't bother you so much. But that was 4 years ago now, and I never actually dealt with small children since - so I have lost my ability to filter out the noise of them.

Now I can't stand the racket of them. When I hear one screaming at the top of it's lungs in a shop or cafe or bus it just drives me insane. I am just not one for small children. It's nothing personal, and I would never hurt one, but I'm just not a toddler lover, like some people are. I see some people gazing at them and telling the mother how cute it is - but that is just not me. And it's no good people saying to me, ''ohh, it's only little, it will scream and cry - that's what they do, nobody can help it, blah blah blah blah...'' because that does not make me think any different of them. To me, the worse sound in the world heard by my ears is loud screaming children. I just cannot tolerate it.

If it weren't for small children, my life will be better; I would go shopping more, I would happily work in a shop, I would even tolerate being in public more. Thse days small children have made me feel more anxious because of the racket of them. It's a sound that I just cannot filter out.

Well, I don't know why I'm babbling on too much about how I feel about them, because I'm sure most of you lot all feel exactly the same as I do too.

People screaming and being loud in general are a major issue for me, and kids seem to make up a considerable part of the screaming demographic. Why in the world can't parents discipline their children and get them to behave in public places? My siblings and I, with very few exceptions, were quiet and well-behaved in public (if we acted up, we got spanked), and my cousins (most of whom are children) are all the same way, so I know it's possible to control your kids if you want to. Sometimes I put my finger to my lips and making a "shhhh" sound to try to let them know nicely that they're being loud (when it's children making the noise), but my family thinks this is very rude.

Yes....Thats why I prefer places where there are NO MINORS allowed...We have a few of these in Red Deer, or order food and have it delivered.

I can't stand loud noises like the kids that scream at that ear splitting volume. I don't get how parents can ignore that noise,

My mom didn't allow my brothers and I to be loud in public. She told us to be quiet and would get mad at us if we got too loud. But at home it was acceptable but only time she tell us to be quiet was if she was watching something on TV or on the phone. I think we were pretty good because she taught us well.

Lot of people think these days kids should be loud all they want and if it bothers you and you say something about it, you're a bad person who hates kids. Back in my parents days, it was kids should be seen not heard. That seemed to have gone away. My mom never agreed to that rule society had because she felt kids had every right to talk and voice their opinions and play but I think the rule meant not be so loud and disruptive like in stores or restuarants or on the bus or in the car. I think it was because she had cousins who had parents that wouldn't let them talk at the dinner table and stuff and they grew up doing it to their own kids.

There are places where kids can be loud; play areas and play grounds.

I can't stand being in Wal Mart or Zeller's and dealing with kids running up and down the aisles, screaming, at the tops of their lungs. Their parents are supposed to be teaching them, to be responsible members of society, yet they let them run around, like punks.

You're exactly right. There's a time and a place for little kids, and it ain't always the right time and place to hear them constantly squawking in a posh little restaurant where you want to go and relax and enjoy a nice tasty meal, not to mention how expensive the meal is too. That is simply not fair. If I had a kid under 4 and I knew it was the type to play up and yell the whole time, then a peaceful restaurant will be the last place I'll take it to. Instead I'll take it to McDonalds, or get a takeaway.

Yes - I know these parents with these little brats will probably say, ''oh, we can't not go anywhere just because people might not like the sound of our 'darling little angels'!'' but sometimes, when you've got little children who are likely to start wailing their head off, sometimes you have to be a little considerable for others, especially bringing them into places what aren't really for kids, like little restaurants with those posh little wooden chairs and tables, and quiet soothing violin sort of music in the background - they are rightfully designed for adults or older children.

Have you ever heard or used the saying, ''small children get my heckles on end''?

I find it so hard to endure toddlers when they have tantrums. It's because my ears are more sensitive than normal, and nobody has any idea how painful it is for me. The sound from the brat goes through my head, and both my ears vibrate and squeak and it makes me feel a bit unbalanced. Also, because I don't have good tolerence skills, I find it uses up so much energy in me to act relaxed when there is one screaming.

I also envy them for being allowed to scream in public and nobody looks at them. I mean, the other day there was a little dog barking over the road, and everyone turned round and looked at it and some laughed, as though it was doing something wrong. But it's normal for dogs to bark, and it was only happily greeting someone, so I don't see why people all looked round at the dog but nobody looks round at a toddler.

Sometimes people do look round at toddlers when they scream, because they worry in case it's being strangled or murdered, judging the way it screams.
