I don't understand why people get offended or upset when someone says something they don't like but yet that person has that same opinion about themselves.

I don't care what people think of me online. I've been told I'd be a bad parent if I walk out on my severely autistic kid and I didn't freak out. It was his opinion.

There's no big deal. Being called lazy and coward when your disabled is fairly standard practice I take it.

Same here, I just blow a razberrie when someone does that
to me.

I slipped and called them a boogarface sometimes or a poopyface
when they say I'm "just lazy", other times I have
"gone over board" as they said, I proved it right
before their eyes and then they turn around
saying I was "overreacting" or "trying too hard"

Often I have a big mouth and I say
"OK I wil go out first thing tomorro and
land a job, I PROMISSSSSS!"

I just don't u nderstand why if I go and
prove my point, they say I went overboard,
or they go "ok I GOT YOUR POINT" when
they really don't have a clue.

I probably should not have done this, it
made a big disturbince and it was terrible,
I applied at another fastfood place and sure
enuf, a bad customer caued me to have a seizure
and I got writ up for it, whate er that means,
it happend another time, bas customer and I
banged the counter and stamped off and
cried in the refrigerator and the boss said
NOw, Tigger, you can't do that, this is the
second time." I said "osrry I forgot"

3rd time wa s a "charm" tho, I got a mean one
that made me thro the hambooger and it hit
the wall and 2 buns went oposit directions and
the meat slided down the wall leaving two pickles
behind. I saw that on video tape, someone recorded
it and shhowed me a week later, it was funny then
but when it reilly happend I had no idea but
all I remember is throwing it and going in the
rerfigeraztgor and slamming the dore.

Finly the boss said "I can't have you doing that here
I have to let you go." I said "Boogers" and left, just
walked out and went to the park and played in the
mud with some little kids who were getting home
from school, and just forgot all about that stupid place
and then old Boogerface Charlie came along and ask
me what are you doing in the mud arnt you sposed
to be at work and I said No they said I can't
come back anymore, so charlie drove me down
there and went in and ask why and he came
back out and told me that I was overreacting
and "gone over the top" and I said that is how
I react when someone treats me that way.

He said you don't see me doing that
and I said so what i'm no you.

He said Tigger I can't belive you and I said
well thats not my problem if you don't like
it then your not my frend and let me out of
your stupid crappy car, I got out of his stupid
Ford piece o f rubbish and tamped away and
he tride to follow me and I kept saying "FXXX YOU!!"
at his car and started throwing mudballs and
then he gets out and starts benahatching about it
and I said GEE IF YOUD QUIT FOLLOWING ME
I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HIT YOUR STUPID FORD!! !!

He said "I don't understand you, Tigger, you won't
behaveat work, " I interupt him "I can't when people
keep blocking me" Charles tried to go on about
how I blame others and I pointed hoout how he
loved to blame the victim, whch he did.

I just finally said "charles, I quit on you, your not my
frend anymore" and I walked away.

He tride callling me but I did not answer the fone,
mom did and told him I was not home.

I wish I cood have speaked charles language
so I cooda told him why I malfunctiomn.

I cood not speak his language, I always needed
an interpreter, it worked better this way,
my English is totally different from everyone elses.

I eventually ended up on disability somehow, don't
know how. It could have been the heat stroke I
had when I was 15, it cooda been anything.

I don't have a problem with how I function, I don'
tconsider it a malfunction, I think I do fin e but
everyone else seem to think I am the one with
the problem.

I cood work if only peple would LET ME.

I do video editing at home for a little money
but not even enuf to eat off of.

I guess my work for other peple isn't good nenough
for them, so I am considered "can't work".

Except my video editing, I am told I do a good
job.

So I am gonig to stick with it, I'm 41 I am too
dang old to go job searching, thats for those
who have the figst of youth on their side.

I DO have a job, so why do epeole think I don't
have one, I work at home editing video, I just
do nt make enuf money to live on, and I guess
unless its eletronics I am stupid with everything
else I don't know

I am not autistic, but I suffer from very bad anxiety in most social situations, as I used to be bucket teeth as a kid. I find it difficult to work around people because they tend to notice that I get very nervous (some people play off that and do things to agitate me). The world is a cruel place. I have a specialized job where I pick up pieces of material and deliver them across the country in a cargo van. I can only do this type of work because I only deal with my boss on the cell phone, and I rarely ever see people when I pick up and deliver for more than a few passing minutes. Without this type of job, I’d be on disability or even worse.

If you are disabled (legitimately disabled) do not hesitate to file for your benefits. Do not feel bad because you are unable to work and have to receive an income from the government. I have paid taxes (and continue to pay taxes) and I do not have a problem with anyone getting disability. In fact, most of the people I associate with are glad to pay into Social Security so that disabled people do not have to beg for money in the streets. Don't hate yourself for being disabled, there is a reason why we are the way that we are. I don't have the answer to why some of us are chosen to suffer in this life more than others, but at least be glad you are still alive and able to communicate with one another.

I may myself be on disability (not for a lack of motivation) but because I have a hard time functioning in social settings. I can barely force myself to go into a super market to buy food. I have never been to a psychiatrist for my issues as I am afraid of an "official diagnosis." But if this becomes any more unbearable, I am going to have to file for disability. Or even worse, I may just decide that fighting this off for so many years is becoming too arduous and elect to opt out of the world as we know it. Just be glad you are still above water and let the republican types continue to bash you for being socially impaired. They too will have a time when one of their kids ends up with autism or some other form of disability (or better yet, they themselves might have a severe accident and need to file for disability). Then and only then will they ever be able to admit that their views on social issues are totally unacceptable.

As I stated in the first paragraph, I can't completely relate with y'all for bring autistic. What I can relate with you on is having a lack of social skills and the feeling of isolation "as society tends to shun that which is not considered to be socially acceptable or normal. I can relate with people mocking you and being intolerant of your shortcomings." You guys need to forget about the rest of the world and live your lives. Never feel bad for having a disability. In fact we see life in a much better light than functional people do. We can see past the barriers of social norms. We do not see the world in black and white, but we see the world in a wonderful array of colors. Be strong people. Don't let the world get you down.
:D

Could somebody explain what SSI is and what the difference is between that, welfare, and other government things that give people money? Any Canadians know what we have?

Thanks for the welcome response. I want to also add that my nephew has full blow Autism.

Well the difference between SSI and SSDI is that "SSI" is given through the state for people who are disabled and cannot qualify for SSDI. SSDI is a federal disability program that requires an individual to have worked a certain number of years to be able to qualify for benefits. You have to have at least 20 credits of work in the past ten years to qualify for SSDI. You earn 4 credits a year if you make a little bit over 4k in gross earnings. The requirements may be lower for individuals who are under the age of 25 years.

I will likely be applying for that before long, but I am first going to keep working as long as I can. I had hoped to make it to 62 before applying for anything, but I do not think that is going to be possible.

I'd just apply for it if you need it. There won't really be a difference between your disability amount and your full retirement amount. I have a step-dad who has been told by his doctor that he needs to file for disability and he is working himself into the grave. He is causing more damage to his back by working than he would if he laid back and got better. You need to make sure you are still going to have a good quality of life once you retire.

Sure. Right now I am only working when my back is not hurting and my arthritis and whatever else are tolerable and there is actually something for me to do ... and that has become always less than 30 hours per week. But after my wife and I move in about three months, I will likely have to apply soon anyway since there is little chance of my finding an accomodating employer in a far-away place completely unfamiliar to me.

i get ssdi around $917 a month in arizona. i can live off it but barely my rent is $650 wich leaves me about $250 for food and my collections. (i frequently collect rare sportscards and i save money for my fire agate projects i still wanna do) usually i head on over to dollar tree and spent about $1 a day on some high nutrition veggies or spagetteooes (no meat balls) wich means i only eat once a day. wich works because i need to buy cards and save money but i gotta say a couple of years of this is making me want to try to go back to work. its just such a chore to keep up with it everymonth, oh i almost forgot i got a fancy t-mobile phone but my mom pays for it. i used to have a prepaid phone but i let it expire because it was getting too expencive. anyways, i just dont know what i wanna do for a living. ive been to voc rehab but had very bad expericances with it, namely with one pirticular person there. so i'll probably be on this for the forceeable future and wont know what to do. if they kick me off disability i'll probably just go back to being homeless

I'm sorry you feel that way. I choose to believe that there are some people that truly are disabled and that the extra help they receive is beneficial and helpful to them and improve the quality of their lives. Are there people that abuse the system? Sure there are. A lot of them. However, painting everyone with the same brush isn't going to solve anything.

Ditto I'd say many, I'm just about to get off disability (9 years) my severe AS co existing condition was an acquired (birth trauma) undiagnosed lobe injury 8O which I suspect caused my AS. It's really sad people have these prejudices even my mother kicked me while I was down and let me tell you very very very down "get a job" she even claimed many people cheat welfare (disability) So I asked my GP if this really happens he says (emphatically so ) "no" in 40+ years in medicine his had (knowingly) 4-5 people who had fleeced him. Prejudices toward disabled people with "invisible" disabilities make me sick.

Lee where you gonna move to? Would you be interested in getting into a driving job that can net you like 25k a year after expenses? Also, if you elect to show a loss each year, you can basically file a schedule c loss on your taxes and pay zip in federal and state taxes.

I drive a cargo van for Panther Expedited Services. I get paid 85 cents a mile to deliver freight to different ares of the country. All you need is a van (5k to 6k) investment and you are good to go. Check out this site to see if you might be interested in doing this (expeditersonline) with the dot and the com on there.

My friend has some of the joints in his right hand fingers permanately fused together and still manages to do well in this line of work. It's not as good as it used to be pre 2005, but you can still make some decent money at it.
