While we are on the subject of people falling on hard times, I'd like to point something out.

In my area, if you have a job (ANY JOB) and are volunteering with the fire department in your free time - usually one night a week - they (the fire dept) will let you live at the fire station for free.

That's a pretty fair deal don't you think?

That is a pretty kickass deal.

So, you could be a student and work part time for food...volunteer there one night a week.

You make life more hopeful for me.

Yep, pretty much. As long as you are working (which shows to them that you are not leaching from the tax payer) and volunteering (which shows you have at least some good in you), you get to live there for free.

It's a really great deal - however, for me, it's a bit noisy to be there every night.

I wonder why MOST people don't do that. You could get away with working 20 hours a week at some 10 dollar an hour job just to afford food......

WHILE GOING to school full time.

I'm not really sure why more people don't do it.

When I was going to school for my engineering degree ( a long time ago ), I worked as a climbing instructor - and I hate heights! But, it paid the bills and I didn't go hungry that often.

You do what you have to do to get by, just as long as you don't hurt others.

No problem at all. PM me about that and I might be able to square something away for you!

Your acting like your a saint but ok

I'm guessing the girlfriend offer is a bit of a joke. Not sure how she'd have the resources for that one. The other offer, however, I have reason to believe is completely on the up and up.

Fixer_Girl, you absolutely blow me away.

OK, I've sat back and watched for a day, to see where you would go with this.

Let me start by saying that yes, initially it was a "Put up, or, Shut up" kind of deal.

However, . . .

If you are on the level and need help, then my family is willing and able to help.

Wow. Just . . . wow.

I'm not looking for help, but at some point I'd really like to meet you and shake your hand. Good people are hard to find.

And thanks for the tip about phlebotomy. I had no idea it was so easy to get into - or paid that well. I may be taking a different set of classes next semester!

Uh, ASS-P? Unless she is totally blowing smoke (and at this point, I don't think so), this is about the best you can hope for, unless you want to wait for the lottery - and if you don't take this offer, you've got a better shot at the lottery than getting another offer like this. Yeah, it'd be scary, but . . . all you have to do is agree to meet her somewhere in Cali. If she shows up, you can be pretty sure she's for real. If she doesn't, you get your hopes up for nothing, but you are not actually OUT anything.

Fixer Girl seems like an amazing and incredibly accomplished person with a heart of gold. I can't help but find her extremely intimidating though. NOT because she is a female btw.....so I hope no one makes that accusation. Rather.....I find it very scary and depressing to associate with people with her quality and quanity of phenomenal accomplisments and life experiences. 8O Whether through faults of my own or factors which are simply beyond my control....I basically have no accomplishments and not many more life experiences :(

Anyway....I hope ASS-P takes her up on this inexpressibly generous opportunity. I take back everything and anything I said about Fixer Girl. Her harsh tone and everything she said has been rendered null and void by beautiful and rare offer!! ! :)

Please don't be intimidated by me. Most of what I have done is purely through being in the wrong place at the right time.

As for meeting me on a street corner somewhere in California, I'm going to ask for a little more than that.

If you want me to drive from Virginia to California, I have to know that you are actually going to be there. Hence, I'll ask you to go to a local police station and to wait for me there. I'll arrange food for you from the time I leave here, to the time I get to you in California - and through some contacts here in Virginia, I'll be able to explain what the deal is with the police department and you'll be able to hang out until I get there. In short, I'm not going to drive across America (twice!), just to NOT meet someone who's been bullsh'ting about their situation - as that would be super uncool, and waste about two weeks I could use on other things, like my family!

The offer is there, and you are free to take it. All I ask is that you drop the baggage on the sidewalk and enter the vehicle drug and issue free (as issue free as anyone can be that is).

From my house to San Francisco it's 2,874 miles - one way.

That's a big deal for me, and that's a lot of gas!

8O

While we are on the subject of driving. If you come to live with my family, we'll help you get your license again.

Fixer_Girl, I've got to admit, like it or not, you can be intimidating. In type, anyway. Heck, we've all got our thing ;)

If you do head out, pm me before you leave. I'm not that far.

DW, sure thing. I love NoCAL, I want to retire there.

If I go, I'll be taking a GPS tracker with me so that my family can keep track of where I am - I usually forget to call them and let them know that I've gone on an adventure; we all do that right!?!

I know I come across as very abrasive. I'm sorry for that. My communication style is usually extreme, and that's something I really hate about myself, but, I'm trying to work on it. Actually, I might be starting a new 'unpaid' job soon. The political representative of a very large autism/aspergers advocacy association. It'll mean that I have to meet with the government on a regular basis in D.C. and I guess I'm going to have to learn to bite my tongue rather than say the wrong thing!

It's not written in stone yet though, so we'll wait and see. I would love to make a bit of a difference for all of us though - it's about time someone stood up to the government for Aspies, I just didn't think it would be ME!

For those that are interested and think I'm super intimidating, my face is on the "post a pic" or "Sexy Aspies" (not that I am) thread!

Once you see my face, you won't think I'm intimidating anymore!

ASS-P isn't responding. Was all that planning too much for him to handle and sent his mind into overload?
