I still think we should save up and buy the Moon once they invent public Space Travel...

It's a bold plan and not for everyone. I don't think NT's will be accepting us anytime soon. It would spoil there fun. Look at all the fun they have tormenting and harrassing autistic people in the school system. They start screwing with your head as soon as you start school. They destroy your self-esteem and make you feel like a loser. Maybe if you are only a little aspie you can conform and pretend to be NT so they will accept you. But if you cannot or don't want to pretend to be like them they will ostricize, marginalize, bully, criticize you until you are so depressed you want commit suicide.
Yeah i know not all NT's are mean. But even the nice one's still think it's a shame your not an NT.

I don't think what happens in school represents the rest of life at all. From ages 13-17 everyone is a depressive and semi-sadistic s**t. It's got nothing to do with NT's v.s. Aspies, it's just people being mean to people in general. Aspies are just convenient targerts.

Four years after that starts, people grow up, the world moves on, and people are nice again. If they're not, it's either (A) because you're doing something nasty yourself, or (B) because you just aren't around the right people. Either way, there's no point whinging about the rest of the human race, when it's in your power to improve your life yourself.

Don't let Mnemosyne move to the island. I read a story where a woman moved to an island to live with just her cats. They reproduced faster than she could order food to be delivered and they eventually devoured her. Mnemosyne might have lots of baby cats that will grow up and do the same to us.

Maybe it is in my power to improve myself, I don't know.

It hurts like hell when I try to cut my skull open, and I still haven't figured out how to change the wiring in my brain around.

I disagree.

Sometimes I enjoy being different. If I would live only with aspies, my life would have turned a little boring.

I enjoy when I fight against NT's ignorant commentaries.

I think if we make this, the problem will get worse

snake, buying an island or a piece of land to build a self-sustaining community is very unlikely.

Maybe considering something more realistic and attainable might be better, like autistic "vacations" or something, kind of like Autreat does. Something where autistic people can come together, but where they're not just stuck there having to learn how to survive in the wild, grow crops, etc.

It wouldn't be an "island", but it would be something. A realistic and possibly attainable something.

In theory, this would be a brillant idea.
It may work in practice but what do I do? I'm a minor.

The things people come up with these days... However, I like the idea of the island as more of a place where we can gather and hang out and help eachother and stuff. Kinda like that corner in the room or that tree next to the park bench. You'd go there with little fear of invaders and just hang out and be yourself. Parents and stuff would be able to visit and say 'Hi' (so long as they didn't do anything bad to you), as should all other NT's that we felt were important in out lives. I'd so invite Jeremy, Luke, Leo and Alex over for a bon-fire night!

Hmm... maybe in the future when we've got Space Travel we should all save up our money buy the moon!

They'd tell using fMRI techniques. Problem is, they wouldn't be able to place the foetus somewhere specfic on the spectrum, just tell that the child is on the spectrum somewhere

Aspergia, Autistica and Bipolaria will fight the from Neurotypica and Pschycologila upon them forced war with all in their power standing means, to a victorious end.

Aspergia, Autistica and Bipolaria obliges themselves, without a totally mutual agreement, neither to get armistice nor peace, neither with Neurotypica, nor with Pscycologila.

Is that the mission statement? Not nearly complicated or detailed enough for an Aspergian community!

Yeah I have thought about what it would be like to live in like a neighborhood with other aspies I think that is a more attainable goal for us. But I'm having a helluva time getting my own life organized never mind finding other aspies to meet/live with, so never mind.... :?

I think they're focusing more on genetics and karyotyping methods done via an amniocentesis. Although the main problem with this (and the good news for future ASD generations) is that the vast majority of ASDs are genetically very complicated and so they haven't been able to identify what exactly triggers the ASD cocktail genetically.

However, there are ASDs that are comorbid with such things as Fragile X, PKU, etc., which are identifiable via karyotyping after an amnio, but the difference being is that most mothers won't know to look for Fragile X or PKU as they're fairly rare disorders in themselves and most wouldn't think to check.

Down's on the other hand is often checked standardly once a woman reaches a certain age and becomes pregnant. This is the main reason most Down's babies are aborted.

There is always the possibility that a prenatal test could be developed to try and pinpoint an ASD. Thankfully at this time, no such test exists, and what with the complicated genetics involved and that often no two ASD genetics are exactly alike, means a prenatal test isn't terribly likely or at least a fair ways off.

A cure is likely even further off.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't worry for the abortion of future generations. But how to combat that? Not sure. Probably politically would be the best way. Unfortunately, that brings up the whole "pro-life V. pro-choice" debate as well and may associate us with folks we wouldn't normally want to be associated with.

As well as just generally changing the impression of ASDs out there in the general public. And getting doctors also to not scare the s**t out of new parents and pressing them to abort like they often do with Down's.
