Middle school was the hardest for me. Most of my friends from elementary school ditched me for the popular kids, so I was alone through most of it. The popular kids were stuck-up jerks, but everyone still worshiped them. Kids also started to follow trends, and I was very slow to pick up on them. The annoying hormonal changes and the dating thing was annoying too. I felt awkward at that age, and was one of the few girls who wasn't asked out. I felt like a huge failure in middle school. Things got better in 8th grade because I started hanging out with the group of friends I've managed to keep through high school and starting college.
