Yep, people stare at me. Most of the times this is related to the fact that people can't tell whether I am male or female. It's mostly the clothes I wear and the fact that I am rather thin so they all hang off my frame.
But then I catch people staring at me even when I am impeccably dressed in all-female clothing. I don't stim obviously in public and I put up a good NT display, so why is that I can't even guess. I think it must be my face, it is androgynous to the last extent so it bothers most people.

I get this too. Every day I dress in presentable clothes and my hair is always in good condition (always washed, brushed, straightened, ect). But I was told that it's natural for people to look at other people. Today when I was sitting on the bus a lady got on and she really looked like somebody I knew, so I had to stare at her for it to give time to register in my brain who it was, but after about 2 or 3 seconds I realised it wasn't who I thought it was so I looked away. But I wasn't thinking anything offensive when I looked at her, I was just thinking, ''do I know her or don't I?''

I don't have face blindness, but I find that if I don't look at other people then I won't spot anyone who I do know. Because I walk fast and don't normally look at people, I then hurry past people I know, and then the next day at work I get colleagues saying, ''I saw you in the town yesterday and you walking straight past me,'' or something like that, and I don't like to look unfriendly. So I reckon that is why NTs around us are always chatting to people in the street - it's because they look at eachother first, instead of keeping their eyes on the ground. By looking at people who pass, you're more likely to see people you know without obliviously hurrying past them and then having them ask you the assumed question the next day.

I feel like I am under a spotlight in public and it drives me insane. This is generally why I do any grocery shopping at 4 in the morning, fewer people.

if i look even for one tenth of a second at most people, they will instantly look at my eyes looking at them.

it is interesting how self conscious many people are. they know when they are being considered by an external eye with an almost magical immediacy.

i do not look away when they see i am looking at them, and them looking at me looking at them matters not at all to me, but it only takes a second or 2 for me to decide that they are not worth looking at because i am interested in other things.

then when i cease looking at them, sometimes they come to my table and try to resurrect my interest in them, but i see them as intrusive pests at that stage. if i have looked at them and then decided to look elsewhere because i am bored with what i see, i can not understand why they would still want my eyes pointed in their direction.

the world is full of mysteries, and they are all outside the door to my private world which only i have the key for.

oh so sorry about my previous post (although it does stand) . i see that the topic of your thread is

i never catch people staring at me because i never fish for people staring at me.
i almost never look at a persons face, and if they are staring at me, then i would not likely ever notice.

i do not mind peoples eyes to be focused on me at all. people looking at me are not a bother to me. it is just if they expect that i will look back at them, and have a problem when i fail to do so , that i am not completely satisfied about.

Ditto, I can feel it like...it is burning the side of my face. People stare at me constantly. I don't know why. I'm quiet, I'm clean, and I keep the vast majority of my nervous tics hidden when I am in public. People just really seem to enjoy staring at me. They always have. It freaks me out. And I hate having people behind me, especially on the bus.

Same here, I always feel as though people are judging me.

I don't think I look particualry weird or anything but I always seem to get people staring at me.

A few years ago, back when I used to shave my head bald, this girl at a bar kept staring at me for the longest time. She finally came up to me and asked "I know this is probably stupid but are you Billy Corgan?" Billy Corgan being the lead singer from Smashing Pumpkins. Then a week ago (now with longer hair and a goatee about 4 inches long) a female visitor at the hospital I work at kept staring at me while I was entering patient information into the computer. Towards the end of the shift she finally comes up to me and says that I look like a lot like Dave Navarro.

How Billy Corgan and Dave Navarro come to peoples minds when they look at me is beyond anything I can imagine.

A lot of times people stare at me because......I dress differently? I look mean? Or maybe like I belong in a popular metal band? I have no idea. Or maybe they can sense something about me is very different? Or maybe we're all just paranoid and think people are staring at us when really they're probably looking at us and thinking that they need to hurry up and buy that silverware gift set thats on sale at WalMart.

I've never noticed anyone staring at me, but people always complain that I do it to them.

Quite the opposite, actually. I'm almost run down by twentysomethings when out shopping. I used to hop out of the way, now I keep on walking. (No collisions thus far.) It's like they don't see me. I also have some neighbors who refuse to look my way when they're out for a walk. (! !??) They actuallt turn their heads and stare at the house across the lane. (! !??) Hello, over hhheeeeeerrrrreeee ! !!

They are power tripping you!! It's disgusting and happens to me all the time. People just WILL NOT move out of my way, I follow the rules, stay to the correct side on footpaths and shared footpaths, make room if they have a bag or pram or are old etc etc even if they do not. Yet, they are so selfish and into their own existence, they do not move.

Sooo, all you have to do, is get the ol' elbows out, and give them a good elbowing as you walk past. Most generally they turn around and say something like 'Jesus Christ" or "Wtf" and I just turn around and say "It's a shared pathway mate." And carry on, it's the only way. Why should I always be the one to move?

Be like the Chinese and just elbow everyone, ignore lines, jump in front etc etc

I always get stared at, it bothers me, it is in fact odd if I am not stared at as it happens all the time. I wish I could get a break from it....or get paid for it, it is tiring.

I am always stared at. I can stand the staring. It is the rude comments people yell, the people who cross the road away from me, the random strangers asking for photo's standing next to me that i cant stand.

It comes from being taller then most men and a foot taller then the average woman. :?

That they're jealous of my good looks and how I'm very innocent for these times. :)

They're checking me out. There's no other explanation. Oooh, that's an interesting cloud.

People do stare at me actually. It's really weird because it's not a mean or hostile stare most of the times, people just have this look of utter confusion on their faces and I really don't know why, I don't (think I) look different, dress different or anything 8O It's like they just saw a unicorn or something.

Yes, very often.
It makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable and angry, like they're invading my space. I probably have BDD so it makes it worse, I walk around looking at the floor most of the time and literally move myself or turn my head out of people's vision so they don't get a chance to stare.

In fact, I nearly walked into a moving van once because I was trying to avoid someone's blatant staring fit!

I think it's a really rude habit. You never really know what the intention is with a stare (i.e. are they staring at you because they are repulsed, confused or because they think you're attractive), because a stare is such a blank expression
