something you DO have to take into account is that if people are guessing your age, they don't want to overestimate it because some people get offended by being told they look older than they are...

but on the other hand, there seems to be a trend. boys with AS seem to go into early (not seen so much in this thread but in another one) and thus may look older while it seems like girls with AS tend to develop later. it may have something to do with hormones, because I remember some theories about autism being abnormally severe male behavior and also one about it being caused by too much testosterone before birth (which is where the 2nd and 4th finger comparison thing started)

don't know if anyone else noticed the trend...

I've never met someone who wasn't really surprised when i told them my age.
Maybe our bodies just mature slower than NT's bodies ?
It would really make sence if it were that way.
Because practicly everyone with autism looks much younger.

Things that are the most noticable is not having full beard growth over 20.
I notice that most people with Autism don't have it.
Whilst i don't see any NT's around my age who don't have it.

Maybe we just mature at a different rate ?

For females with AS, 13 look younger, 3 look the same, and 0 look older.
For males with AS, 12 look younger, 2 look the same, and 9 look older.

I think it's showing something, what it is I don't know.

Definitely younger. I'm 34, but most people guess I'm in my mid 20s. I was a very late bloomer.

Well I am very tall with a low pitched voice and I have premature development syndrome.

When I was 12 I'd be sent into the pub to buy drinks for the 16-17 year olds, I was never questioned. When I was 14 I looked as if I was in my early 20s.

When I was 25 I looked 35, and stayed there for the next 25 years...

But that's nothing...

I recently met up with an old school friend, she looks even younger than me...she is 6 months older...

I'm in my mid-to-late 20's and apparently look like I'm in my teens. I have 20 years olds calling me sweetie. (thats a big pet peeve of mine.)
I've also been asked if Im old enough to drive.

I look extremely younger then my age. I'm 6 years behind development, and I'll be 23 in a couple months but I defintely look like I'm 15 or 16. If I put my hair in pigtails I look like I'm 12 and I'm also 5'3 and half, and 97lbs. I'm kind of happy I'm behind development though, because my hips just emerged this year, and everybody my age and around me is done growing, and just last year I was 5'2, now I'm 5'3 and half, so who knows what I'll look like in 5 years haha.

I'm 37 now, but people here in Holland estimate me 30. In South Africa, however, they think I'm ten to thirteen years younger! Last month I was in SA again, which has been a rather rejuvenating experience! A girl even told me I looked 22, 23. So that's 15 years younger. Unbelievable. :D Probably because SA people's skins look older because of sunburn. On the other hand, I have always been several years behind in things that are considered normal behaviour for people my age ("latebloomer"), and I may come across younger because I seem easily impressed by information and by what people say. Luckily, I'm also quite tall, so that compensates the youthfulness in a good way.

In Tony Attwood's book (2006) I have read that women fancy men with Asperger's because they have these "angelical, symmetrical faces" and they are behind in many aspects of their development, which some women like; especially women with strongly motherly feelings and women who are insecure about their own appearance.

I wonder: is there a physiognomic aspect to Asperger's? Isn't it just limited to a cerebral state?

One person estimated me as 20 when I was 17, one person estimated me as 25 when I was 19, one person estimated me as 8 to 10 when I was 10... one person said I looked about 12 when I was 11... one person thought I was 4 when I was 6... some people think I'm way older, some think I'm way younger, some think I'm around my age and some guess exactly the right age... so that's why I just said the same for me.

Study the thread title for a moment and scrutinize it. What, exactly, does an age look like?

I look (and act) older than I am, which I suppose is good, because I've always been "advanced" in school.
